Growing up in southern West Virginia, there were a few times when my father would tell me that there were stories he heard as a child about treasure being buried somewhere in the hills nearby, though he never went into any sort of specifics. This region, the Greenbrier Valley, is one of the most cave-rich areas on the planet, and it would not be a huge stretch to imagine someone tucking a sizable stash away somewhere without prying eyes. If anything, the 'thousand-year floods' of 2016 might have flushed something loose that might be a very pleasant surprise.

I live in a town near the bottom of the superstition mountains called Apache Junction. We see alot of people die during the summer because tourists want to try and find the gold. I don't have much options about it and whether the gold is real or not but I do participate in the lost Dutchmans Mud Run lmao. It can get real spooky out there at night tho. There is always a pair of eyes on you.

The Beale ciphers treasure vault based on the fact that they used the declaration of Independence as a key sounds like national treasure. Ayo Nicholas Cage where you at?! We might need a third sequel for that.

In the early 80s, I lived in Safety Harbor Florida, we moved there when I was 7, and by the time I was 10 I was treasure hunting on the bay between SH and Tampa. We had a park with a very large hill and at the top were stairs that went down to a very small beach with a lot of rocks. During really bad storms or Hurricanes, things would wash up into shallow waters or the beach itself. I found a gold cross about 5 inches long after Hurricane Elena passed Florida. It was from the mid-1880s and a few people with metal detectors found coins and other objects from that time period. A lot of ships have sunk in Tampa bay area. I've found old bottles and a metal plate before.

A more recent treasure hunt occurred in Montana. The Forest Fenn’s hunt. If I remember right, an author wrote a story that inspired many to believe there was a treasure hidden in Montana. Treasure hunters scoured for years. Eventually, one man (unnamed) found the riches. There are several news stories about this since it’s recent.

The only reason I know this, is because my wife and I ran into a “crazy old man” claiming to be searching for this treasure for years, in a bar in Missoula. Just a few weeks after meeting this man, this story came out in the news.
