This video made such a huge difference. Less lower back ache, more weight and more reps in my 531 routine.

Great instruction. If only more "trainers" would teach these basic extremely functional lifts. So many stupid bosu-ball and rubber bands stunts in my local gym!

Saved this to my watch list so I can watch it as a reminder right before deadlifts at the gym. 4mins worth watching while you stretch.

never had it explained quite like that I can't really tell if it is the way I did Deadlifts or not because I'm picturing doing it this way now and it seems the same but I want to feel the diference if there is any. I'm glad I found this.

this is the best video on deadlift on youtube. Very clear. I've been struggling to perfect my form for so long. So is the dropping part of the weights not important. (a)Some people say just hip hinge all the way down and (b)others say to bend your knees after weights drop below the knees. Please clear this one up for me. Is it the former or the latter?

There is a difference between the technique of Starting Strength and the technique of Athlean X (Jeff Cavaliere). Starting Strength's technique, as this video shows, advises against the lowering of the hip at the beginning of the movement. On the other hand, with Athlean X, you can drop the hips because the legs will be doing the work at the beginning of the movement, bringing the bar up to the knees and then at that point, the hips take over. With Athlean X, the deadlift is a pushing exercise with the legs at the beginning of the exercise.

I strained my lower back the other day when deadlifting. I think it's because I started out in almost a squat position, when my hips should have been higher. What's a good cue I can use to ensure that my hips are in the right position?

I use to drop my hips way too low causing back pain. I think when I do it though my shins are further than an itch away from the bar. If I'm that close it doesn't feel like a vertical path. Maybe different with taller people?

The guy with the black pants with white stripes seems to have the same issue I have. His lower back is not *quite* in full extension. He looks to be a big guy--I'm about 6'3" and I have the exact same issue. This issue exacerbates at heavy weights, starting 315 all the way up to my max (505). It seems like the lack of ability to set the lower back in full extension plays into the lack of ability to keep the lower back isometrically constant. Does anyone else have experience with this or know of any fixes?

I've noticed I'm in a better position when I bring my hips a little bit lower. Why is it enforced that hip position should never be changed ??

I have short(er) arms and a long torso so no matter what I do the DL always bothers my lower back muscles.
