The DARK Story Behind Andy’s Dad (His Mom Tried To Protect Him!)

Andy’s father is seemingly nonexistent in his child’s life for some reason or another, and it looks like the fans are more concerned about it than Andy is. Theories are floating around from some people who believe his father has been dead this whole time, while others believe that Andy’s parents simply got a divorce. There are even some people who speculate that, much like Andy’s Mom was Jesse’s previous owner, Andy’s dad was Woody’s former owner way before he was Andy’s. Now, while all of these theories about Andy’s father are fairly different, and at first glance seem like they would be unrelated to one another, it actually turns out that they might all be connected. And in the end, they might give us some insight into Any’s parents’ relationship with one another and what happened between them.

In today’s video, we are going to be going over each theory individually and then explaining how each one could possibly connect with one another to give us that bigger picture. Who knows, maybe by the end of this, we will finally find out what really happened to Andy’s dad!

Jessie had a deep memory of being given up that Woody didn’t seem to share, so it would make sense that woody was kept on a shelf somewhere in the house until he was passed down to Andy. His deep connection to the name Andy could even imply that his father could have been named something similar so Woody blended the two together in his mind

How about Andy’s father being a police officer who was killed on the job, while attending a bank robbery, fits in with the first time we see Andy playing with his toys. The Buzz could represent the new husband as commented.

I lean more towards the divorce theory. The problem with Andy's dad being dead, is that even if he was a flawed person, Andy's mom would likely have had something to remember him by. There would have been a picture of him in the house somewhere. Instead there's no trace of him, which suggests he left on a bad note.
Regarding that Andy's mom sees Woody as a sort of heirloom, I think suggests that Woody actually wasn't Andy's fathers toy, but more likely his grandfather's toy. Toy Story 1 takes place in the mid 90s, and Toy Story 2 establishes that Woody was made in the 50s. It would make more sense that Andy's grandfather on his mom's side was Woody's first owner, and when he got older, put Woody in storage. Woody would then later by given to Andy.

I think that Andy and Molly's dad divorced their mom close to the beginning of the first film. It would explain the move.

If Andy's mom and dad did bond over cowboys and cowgirls, it explains why she was so protective of woody in toy story 2

I'm pretty sure the producers/writers confirmed that father died due to health issues
And his childhood pictures are all over the house
He looked like his son as a child

Andy's Dad is actually seen in the first movie. The pictures on the wall aren't the same as the birthday boy. The kid has glasses while the kid in the movie doesn't. Andy is actually Andy Jr. They're moving because the house they're staying at Andy's father's childhood home.

what if Andy's dad was killed / divorced and died and his soul was attracted to the woody doll?

I love how the internet is divided about Andy’s deadbeat dad because unless you have a deadbeat dad, it really is pretty unbelievable that a man could abandon his family without any remorse…

I googled the character list for Toy Story and Andy’s mom”s name is Jennifer not Emily. Interesting theory about Andy’s mom remarrying. That could be quite plausible.

If Sid's father WAS alcoholic, he could be Andy's father as well. Maybe because he was alcoholic, Andy's mother divorced him and Andy's dad went on to marry again. When he got married, had children, he felt guilty and moved back, near his family. That would blend with the cop theory as well.

Have you seen SuperCarlinBrother’s take on this theory? It is really interesting and you might want to see it. I loved your theory❤️

If Andy’s dad is dead (and his sister has the same dad), his mom sure is handling her grief creepily well. As young as the sister is, you would think the grief would be still pretty palpable, especially as important milestones such as birthdays approach.

My favorite theory is that he got the polio virus back in 1959 and died shortly after that

The super Carlos Brothers did a video on where Andy's father is and where woody came from. It is speacil because it explains the writers original story for the father. The father had a long term illness he passed away from and they were in the grandparents house in the first movie due to him recently passing.

Andy's dad wasn't in the photo of his graduation. That is a huge life event that divorced parents would usually still come together to attend. There is no mention of visitation or phone calls. Father is completely absent in all the movies. I think it is most likely that he is dead.

Molly is a toddler/baby in the first movie, I would guess about 1 year old. That means that the father couldn't have been out of the picture more than 2 years. There is no mention of court cases of morning so it is likely that Dad has been gone long enough to get over the main sting.

I just think if he had died in the line of duty there would be photos of him around the house, but we never see any. I have to think it was a nasty divorce, or he walked out on his family after Molly was born.

A couple of people have mentioned parts of this one theory that I saw.
It mentions several things implying woody belonged to Andy’s dad first.
And that his dad was also named andy because of the two different ways the name is spelt on the shoe.
Anyway theory is that Andy’s dad was very ill and sickly throughout his life and the house they were living in was his childhood home, he passed before the events of the first movie.
This explains why a couple of Andy’s toys are far older then he is and why woody was considered rare in the second.
But then it goes into this thing that chicken man was a bully to Andy sr as kids 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I always think that Toy Story was about grief.

you do realise the guys behind toy story even confirmed what happened to his dad right?

the dad got very sick and told andy to go get this woody doll, only when Andy ran back to him with Woody his dad had passed away.

but my theory is that maybe the reason why woody is so protective of andy is because maybe Andy’s dad’s Soul is now in woody?
