After The Buzz - Samsung Galaxy S III - Episode 7

Most new-device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they're widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we're lucky- as we work on our review.

Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It's a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it's a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity.

For about ... a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there's followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many people revisit the device to see how it feels a few weeks or months later, because everyone's already focused on the next big deal coming down the pipe.

So let's do something about that. Let's see how we feel about devices when they're not shiny and new anymore. This is After The Buzz.

___

We've featured the Samsung Galaxy S III in more videos, reviews, and editorials than almost any other smartphone - and for good reason. The third installment in Samsung's high-end Galaxy S family is perhaps the company's most significant mobile product, and it's certainly been one of the most successful.

While it might seem a little premature to use the device as the focus for an "After The Buzz" segment, considering the market is still flooded with advertisements extolling the virtues of "the next big thing," it actually launched almost five months ago. As it creeps up on smartphone middle age, how is 2012's most notable superphone holding up in day-to-day use? Click the video above to find out.

The American version is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, actually. Sorry for the lack of stress-testing; we tend to focus on daily usability with After The Buzz.

No burn-in on our unit, which we received shortly after the US launch.

After the buzz is a very useful/important show for the end consumer. I really appreciate pocketnow for letting us know how devices hold up after all the initial hype. More shows should e like this. Keep up the good work.

I retired mine last month after owning it for almost 3 and a half years. It's been a great phone for me for most of its lifetime. The past several months have not been so good as I have had to reboot the phone weekly. Overall, I feel that it has lived up to my expectations for a smartphone.

Btw I always use it while it's charging. Still an amazing device. Happy. First device I've never gotten bored with as of yet. Awesome video. I love this series

Had my GS3 for a couple of months now and still love it as much, if not more, than the day I first got it. Just updated it to Android 4.1 too. Yes, Google Now loveliness!! I had the iPhone 4S before this, and as a somewhat sophisticated user, I get a lot more joy out of tweaking my GS3 just the way I like it, than I did with the simplicity of iOS - though that definitely has its place too. Thanks for the great re-review ;)

My S3(international) is coming up to 2months now, still holding well. Smart stay doesn't work for me, and yes those capacitive buttons are easy to hit accidently. Those are my only gripes, wicked phone!

What about the the S3's Super AMOLED Pen Tile display?
Nothing was mentioned about screen degradation or burn in which has been reported to happen in as little as 4 weeks.
I've had mine for a month now and have not noticed any problems of late.
Just want to know your thoughts on this.

I agree.
I never leave the screen on during charge cycles & it's been 2 months now & I still haven't noticed any burn in.
Although it does get waited down with blotware.
I know I should just root it, but I just got on 2yr agreement & rooting is not covered.
