I used to watch the Newport Jazz Festival on television with my grandpa and sometime in the mid 2000's I saw Marcus playing and couldn't get enough. Loved him since then.

I was fortunate as a child to grow up with my family being great friends with Larry...he was actually there when I was born. Not only is he the Godfather of slap bass he is a truly beautiful human being through and through!

Marcus was definitely one of the most sort after session bass players from back in the day. He's written for and played with hundreds of people. I've seen him on occasion with different people. But I particularly love the music he's done and played on with Luther vandross.

I have to address this craziness. My pops been slappin and thumbing the bass guitar since the the late 50's. It was like playing the drums & bass guitar at the same time. This was common practice before funk took over. The reason why to this day I am connected with a mean bass line, grew up on it listening to my pops pluck that bass from the womb 💪 💪 💪 🎶 🎶
