British Columbia provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix provided an update on the COVID-19 outbreak in the province on Wednesday.

B.C. has recorded three new deaths due to COVID-19, including the first related fatality in the Interior region. Seventy-five people in the province have now died of the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, said Henry, as she confirmed 44 new cases.

About 61 per cent of B.C.’s 1,561 confirmed COVID-19 patients have fully recovered. Of the remaining cases, 131 patients are in hospital, with 59 of them in intensive care.

Henry also said the province cannot return to "normal" life until there is "herd immunity" to COVID-19. This would mean some safety measures will have to remain in place until a vaccine is developed or enough people have formed an immunity to the virus to prevent transmission and a lot of people "becoming sick in a rapid way."

Unreal....The man who died in the interior wasn’t “recovering” at home, he was dying at home. This isn’t good enough. People with this disease in their 60’s shouldn’t be getting sent home !

We know the chances of complications increase for people in their 60’s. Is this why the hospitalizations are so low ?!?

Why have all of this extra hospital capacity if it isn’t even being used ?!?

Not good enough if you ask me.

Someone needs to start asking way better questions than are being asked right now by these so-called journalists.

I'm a nurse. Words I will never feel safe believing again: "The risk to Canadian's is low".

BC did not perform well, the number can’t reflect entire realities. Too many people are still travelling and gathering

Alberta has increased testing. Why isn't BC?

This virus is in 215 countries and territories. Unfortunately, Canada has been moving up the ranks and is today in 11th place re countries with most confirmed cares. It's getting bad. Three things should be a priority now. 1) to ensure all is fed with essential needs like housing, utilities et cetera met over the course of this pandemic, (2) face masks as mandatory for all when in public, and (3) do what must be done with URGENCY to acquire the necessary testing capacity to test the entire population (antigen and antibody). (Why hasn't it been a priority to madly produce test kits?) Please don't waste any more time. Canada will soon be in the top ten, sadly. Act now! Test, test, test to see where the enemy is.

How about more details on the cases not involving care homes and prisons?

We need more testing. How can you make a plan without more data. Can you tell us how many test kits we are getting?
What percentage of people are getting tested?
Hoping we get more details on Friday.

Starts at 8:10 (they might edit the video later)
April 14th BCCDC surveillance report "Testing guidelines implemented on Mar 16 may have affected the number of cases diagnosed. The true number of cases is believed to be greater than that reported. New testing guidelines were implemented on April 9. This change has not yet affected the number of specimens tested or cases reported"

i am listening to this song and trembling from coronavirus -

Give me my freedom for as long as I be
All I ask of living is to have no chains (respirator) on me
All I ask of living is to have no chains (respirator) on me,
And all I ask of dying is to go naturally, only want to go naturally

Don't want to go by the devil, don't want to go by the demon,
Don't want to go by Satan, don't want to die uneasy,
Just let me go naturally
And when I die and when I'm gone,
There'll be one child born, there'll be one child born
When I die, there'll be one child born
When I die, there'll be one child born
in this world to carry on

Is it me or the death of the person who was released as "in recovery" was bypassed quickly? It is a big deal when you are sent home as recovering and end up dying...

Can’t understand why some doctors said face mask is not helpful to prevent virus spreading, very frustrated to some subjective decisions.

Still over 1500 cases per day? Don’t even think about reopening the communities sooner. Keep continue self isolation at home for another month people!

Are we focused a little too much on this one issue?

Schools will have to reconfigure if they are to encourage physical distancing. 2m spacing between desks, for example.

If a clear solution would help us end this in 3-4 months total, would we try to receive it and understand it?

Today, our Prime Minister said we ALL need to stay home if we are to continue to “flatten the curve.” Why then are golf courses in Victoria opening up this coming weekend?

This from a golf course:

“The South Vancouver Island Health Authority provided precautionary measures to be taken to allow the course to operate. Critical to the safe operation of the golf course, full compliance with provincial COVID-19 directives is imperative. These include:
Symptoms - Members who have symptoms such as a cough, fever, difficulty breathing or have been in contact with someone with these symptoms must NOT come to the Club.
Self-isolation - Members returning from another country MUST self-isolate for 14 days and not come to the Club.
Physical Distancing - ALL members must adhere to the physical distancing rule of two metres separation between people throughout the premises.
Gathering - ALL members must avoid gathering or congregating on the premises before, during or after a round of golf.”

My question: What if a golf member is “asymptomatic”?

I’ve been vigilant around “staying home” and now I’m supposed to have faith that my partner won’t bring Coronavirus home? Golf is not an “essential service” - courses should resume when proper testing is available. What is going on with all of this mixed messaging (Provincial and Federal)?
