Best field watch under £1,000 | London Watch Buying Challenge with Justin Hast

London-based watch expert Justin Hast meets up with Andrew McUtchen to check out our newly opened Time+Tide London Discovery Studio, a space perfectly suited for Hast's mission to explore and evaluate the best field watches priced under £1,000. To determine the top contenders, the duo developed a rubric befitting of a field watch based on legibility, comfort, and overall appeal - arriving at brands such as Serica, Hamilton, Zodiac, Baltic, Studio Underd0g, and Farer.

In an exciting turn of events, Justin plans to purchase one of the three finalist field watches and one for a lucky viewer based in the UK.

When I was shopping for a field watch I too picked the Serica with California dial. Very unique design.

For me the pick is either the Baltic or the Nivada-Grechen. As former military I can attest that field watches should have legibility, wearability, and confort in the field. But the last thing it should have is superior water resistance. I never want to wonder if the WR of my watch is enough for what may lay ahead so 100m has always been my starting point for a field watch and both of these watches fill all those boxes. I know this might be extreme criteria for most folks.

No watch says "woodsy outdoors" like a field watch. That Hamilton with the easy to ready dial, military time numbers and great lume make this the hands down winner. The tobacco and teal band (classic country colors) is a bonus. Factor in the price and this wasn't even close.
