If the situation arises that someone should need to baton with a folding knife consider this...carve wood wedges to do the splitting so your blade is not compromised, start it just like doc did but just start the crack enough to get wedge going and start it in the top. A second wedge may be required from the side to continue splitting, then use your top wedge to continue splitting down from the second wedge. Depending on the size of the wood being batoned would dictate how many wedges would be needed and what size to make them, this would really save your blade from alot of abuse and greatly reduce the odds of blade failure. Of course this technique could be used on any size branch, also the wedge could be left long with just the end carved for longer reach. However if you choose to just use your knife to do the batoning doc showed the best way to do it, thanks for showing the proper way to do it if only using your knife.

Hey Doc their is another way of doing that. Get the blade started then flip the stick and put the edge of the blade on a stump and hit the stick down on the blade and it will brake the stick faster in some cases.
