If I remember correctly if Kelsey is originally from Washington State, we test our mettle by standing out in the rain. We don't know the first thing about layers or umbrellas.

Hodgis Figgis is actually part of the Waterstones group which is why you probably found it very similar to UK shops. It used to be their academic bookstore... You went there for any university stuff and to Waterstones for any fiction stuff but in recent years they are all pretty much the same, they just kept the original name.

NZ is a long way, but it is possibly the nicest/friendliest place to visit?
I went 26+ yrs ago, before the LOTR films and if you can handle frying to California the NZ is 'only' another 20 hours!
(the worst most painful 18 hours of my life flying Aukland to LA but NZ is worth the journey!)
(also going that way coz of time zones and the dateline I landed before I took off?) :-)
