I'm out mowing a field of clover with the Belgian horses. Every thing went well until the very end.

Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Thanks for including the broken bolt portion, this is the reality and though disruptive to progress, happens, , otherwise, we think its easier than it is..
You even checked b4 starting. Sometimes if I am in a hurry and don't care to be so machine perfect, I will bite the bottom of the bolt with a vice grips a little bit, to create some interference on the threads so the nut would back off if I have room or a nyloc nut but a good lock washer will usually do it, but differant world on wood dirt and farm equipment, lots of vibration. .. Thanks Jim, that clover looks nice and your nice and sharp.. As the wheels wear the cogs down the diameter should have gotten slightly smaller which may make the cutter faster or just the opposite, but yeah, I can tell your maxed out, nice and sharp!, good job on those corners. Love it, let's make wind rows, I see those rain clouds, hopefully they blow over so you can bale, rake and bale. I like the pace.. They used to say, "when you getting a corn picker?" my Dad says, "what do you mean, I have 6" referring to his 6 boys, I am the youngest, and 4 Sisters. We picked corn by hand.
Used an old honey wagon..
Thanks, again.

Imagine in the future, when we are out of fuels, these guys will still go on and on and make the world go round as long as there are new grass to feed them, and these simple but effective tools will work just fine because of people like Jim that takes good care of his equipment and animals :) Thanks for showing us!

It's great the way you cut the hay it's nostalgic, clean no pollution and your not breathing in fumes, it's truly beautiful the way you farm. These horses are the most beautiful animals.

Watching you & the horses cutting hay was so relaxing, that I drifted back into the twentieth century. Into a time when the family ate, worked, played together & listened to radio shows like The Shadow, Gene Autry, The Red Rider, & Roy Rogers! 🙂

Great video, thanks! I was enthralled by you and your team of horses and could actually smell the clover.

I had the bolt come out on the manure spreader driving a pair of 3 year old colts. They had only been hitched a few times. Fortunately they were pretty well tempted and I was quick on my feet. Dad got a big chuckle.

Very nice job. Back in the day my Grandfather modified his mower to go behind his Ford 8N. That left me on that metal seat and using both feet to get the bar up. Good memories. Take care and stay safe, Al
