Gas Stations and Sonic Sound Effects - Why?

Over the years, I've noticed tons of convenience stores using Sonic the Hedgehog sound effects when scanning items. I've never really questioned it - until today.

Fun Fact: When I was 4 and was checking out at the Gas Station, I heard that sound effect and asked the cashier if they were playing Sonic, they said no and was left in confusion. I wish I was kidding.

there’s a self checkout in a poundland where i live, and the voice is a yoda impersonator and he says “put item in bagging area you must” it’s so wierd

I had my volume down low so when you said “when your gas is pumping” I could have sworn you said “when your ass is poppin”
