It’s good that this generation aren’t as scared of speaking up when feeling depressed. Better to speak up than suffer alone.

It was a blast when I went to school in the 70's & 80's. There were no mass shootings, no social media, the music was far better and a whole sandwich bag of weed was only $20! It was great!😎✌

The saddest thing is members of previous generations battled depression without telling anyone.

When my father died, my mother sunk into serious depression. When grief counseling failed, we sought out medical intervention with a physiatrist and the wait to be seen was 2 months. That was 7 years ago. Now it's even worse. A neighbor was try to get her daughter, who is suffering from postpartum depression, an appointment in two different mental health clinics and in both cases she was told that she would have to wait 6 weeks to even be scheduled for an appointment and then it would be another 2 months before she would be seen. They are currently trying an online program.

One would think that wanting clean air and water would be close to the top of everyone’s list. But it is a partisan issue.

Anyone with intelligence has depression at this point.

I don't want to be that guy who sounds like he doesn't care but kids are just going to have to deal with it. Help isn't coming, it's going to get worse. You can thank the people in charge because until they are on the same boat you are you can't trust them. Public officials should have their kids in public schools and should not make a penny more than the average earning of their state.

I'm gen Z (19y/o) college student and I know 10+ students in my college who are in this situation. So it's true.

Doesn't everyone know someone with depression? We all have problems which cause depression. The reason to be concerned is one is depressed but has no reason to be depressed.

With all due respect. It's great to advocate for talking to your kids about where they are emotionally and mentally. But it's incredibly frustrating as a parent to see a problem and not be able to do anything because you can't afford it. Advocating for mental health to be treated like physical health has to come at the same time. The only people who can access mental healthcare in this country are people who are middle class and upper middle class and higher. And if you can afford it states like Ohio have an almost collapsing mental health system. Takes months to get in to see someone. Kids are committing suicide during the waiting time.

Gee, who would have thought that telling kids they were all fantastic, and giving everyone a participation trophy, while letting mean girls, lurkers, and incels harass teens online, would result in a generation of depressed young adults? Anyone, who has ever taken a developmental psych class, could have predicted giving adolescents no limits at home, no meaningful performance feedback in school, but subjecting them to unrealistic expectations and harassment online, would really mess with their sense of self. Even if mass shootings disappeared tomorrow, Gen Z would be messed up.
