Forgotten Soviet Leaders

Trying out YouTube shorts, will going to be making videos on short trivia about Russia here. In today's video we'll talk about the Soviet leaders most Westerners probably never heard of. If I ask any foreigner to name all the USSR leaders in one go, most would probably forget these. Let's talk about them!

I remember the Onion’s “Our Dumb History” had a headline describing Gorbachev coming to power that was like “Dynamic new Soviet leader not on the brink of death!”

One of those guys died from the “Russian Flu.” It was how some people died back in the day before falling out of buildings accidentally.

I heard a soviet old joke that I liked -
in the soviet times they used to send the cops to cruise the town in three's - one that can read, one that can write, and a third one to supervise these two Bohemians...

If anyone is wondering why he said "at least 3" not well known leaders is that there are two more that may be deserving of being called leader. The first Gennady Yanayev, the Soviet Vice President from 1990-1991. He led a coup during August of 1991 and briefly declared himself Acting President, and held the office for 2 days. The others were the "Troika". A group of 3 people who collectively held powers at various points in Soviet History during times of crisis, such as the the period between Lenin's death and Stalin taking over the office of leader or the final few months of Konstantin Chernenko leadership.

If this gets in the “shorts” algorithm, this is going to do so well

More videos like these, you seem more confident when talking about the history side of Russia, and you have a great voice

Glad to say that I knew about Georgy Malenkov beforehand from the 'documentary' called "Death of Stalin" 2017

I remember Andropov and Chernenko. I'm sure that there was a satirical program (probably Spitting Image) which made fun of the fact they were old and close to death.

I really enjoy these Russian history/culture/irl videos. I've been subbed to you since MLG parody days and seeing you progress from those videos to these is amazing!

Would love to see your history take on Stalin's death and the subsequent power struggle. I watched "The Death of Stalin" a few years ago and it's seriously one of the best dark comedies in recent times. It actually pushed me to learn much more about Soviet history afterwards as well.

You should do more of these shorts. I can see these doing very well for your channel, with the way the algorithm is working at the moment. Keep it up!

I have heard of Andropov and Chernenko (if for no other reason than because they were short-lived), but I didn't know about Malenkov! Thanks for the video!

Also, Malenkov is so obscure that my spell-checker thought I meant "Malevolent"!

I would have missed Malenkov. Andropov and Chernenko I knew very well.
