Are Humans and Chimpanzees Basically the Same?

You’re in a conversation and someone makes the claim that, “Humans are basically evolved chimpanzees. After all, we share 98 to 99 percent of our DNA.” What Would You Say?

Molecular biologist Jonathan Wells calls some ideas “Zombie Science.” No matter how many times these ideas are debunked, they just won’t die. Instead, they get repeated over and over again, even though they are not true.

I would say that humans and chimpanzees evolved from a common ancestor, so chimpanzees are not any less evolved then humans.

We share some of our DNA with bananas but I don’t think we evolved from them

no, we and chimps evolved from an common ancestor. To call that ancestor a chimp is as accurate as calling it a hominid, ot was its own unique species that diverged onto humans and chimps due to differing selective pressures.

We also share 99% DNA with Trees... so...

The human genome project had inflated rates of similarities. We can only observe living things adapting within thier species.

We evolve and chimpanzees went into de-evolving

Well no we have common ancestors so even though we're related to modern chimpanzees we aren't evolved versions of them

I would say that's a fallacy. Why would a similarity in DNA imply evolution? There's no proof to that
