Wow, that's helpful... What would I do without expensive service info??

This is what we deal with on a regular basis. We pay a lot of money every month to have service information and we routinely get this... Youtube videos aren't just for DIYers at home. Professional techs will watch videos too when you just want to know a quick thing that you can't find in service info.

2008 Hyundai Sonota 3.3L alternator replacement. Easy to get to but how to physically get it out? Up top or down below? I prefer working over a vehicle than under it but if you choose the wrong path you could end up wasting a whole bunch of time. So I like to do a quick check to see what service information says. Fat load of good that did... "Disconnect stuff, remove bolts, remove alternator, install is reverse." Wow...

I'm just about positive I've removed these before out the bottom. You unbolt the compressor and shove it off to the side. It only goes so far because of the A/C lines but I think you still have enough room to wiggle the alternator out. It's tight and uncomfortable.

This time I opted for going the top route. Probably a lot more to remove. Including the engine mount. But definitely a lot more comfortable work. Easier to use power tools rather than hand tools, etc. Next one I will probably pull out the top again.

Service manual: "To take it out, you take it out. To put it in, you do the reverse."

Sounds like a Subaru I used to have. I needed to replace the starter. I got myself a service manual. It said, "open hood. Locate starter. Remove starter. Replacement is reverse of removal."

“The alternator knows where it is at all times. It does so by subtracting where it is from where it isn’t and where it isn’t from where it is.”

Still better than the video I saw of a dude who had an Audi (maybe, it was some expensive European car) and it had a bad O2 sensor and he checked the service manual to see how to access it and it was all "step 1: remove engine."

Sounds like something I would write to not miss points on a test in high school.

Almost the same experience when I tried to remove the pulley from the power steering pump on a 2001 f150. I tried using a pulley extractor kit but the instructions were just as cracked. Only the pulley was bad, the pump was totally fine so I only wanted to replace that piece and not waste all the fluid and time scurming under the truck and messing with old pressure lines as I was having to do all this in a parking lot very far from home.
For starters the PSP is wedged down on the bottom of the engine between electrical boxes and the fan shroud so there is no room for these long ass extractor taps/bolts, and the pulley is on super tight. The instructions said it was as easy as 1, 2, 3, but the pump they showed in their illustrations was brand f-ing new so nothing is worn together, on a table/not in the car, and it showed them using these big ass breaker bars and long wrenches, where I could only fit in small/regular size wrenches, and had to torque them in a pretty confined space.
I get the instructions are meant to showcase the tool kit, but it only goes about as a separate piece and doesn't factor in use on a mounted unit.

PS. Ended up having to replace whole pump because the tool broke inside the pump axle and couldn't be removed.

They have summer students write those instructions. LOL I know because I worked at a supplier to the big 3 (back when we had a big 3) and that's who we had do ours.

Literally had this happened this week.

08 e450 with 6.0 Diesel engine.

Serpentine belt broke and there’s no room to get a new one in. Like it’s physically impossible. So I go look on all data.

“Drive belt removal:

Turn tensioner clockwise and remove belt”

Book time 3 hours.

So you have to pull the radiator, intercooler and condenser out and then remove fan clutch to change the drive belt. I’m glad we pay so much a year for the huge wisdom all data gives us.

I had to do one of these a month or so ago and had the same dilemma lol. Pull the radiator fan assembly and it’ll come right out

In the video I said "factory service information". Yes, I know Alldata is not the same. I did not intend to say "factory". I'm still new to making videos. I sowwy! 🤓

Edit: Wow! I'm just some guy from a 2 man shop that misses having people to share things with! So I started making videos a few months back. When I posted this video I only had 100subs. I remember thinking, "Man, I hope this gets me an extra 10subs!" I NEVER expected to get this many views! I love all y'all! Even the d'bags! 😁

I work for Hyundai dealer and that's straight from hyundai techinfo shop manual. Believe it or not that's the way they describe all repairs "Remove bolts and remove part. Installation is reverse of removal". Got to love those people who write the manuals LMAO 🤣

It's like the instructions for replacing a blend door actuator on a Ford truck.
1. Remove dash
2. Replace actuator
3. Reinstall dash
