The government will hike the minimum salary required for foreign workers to take jobs in the UK, as part of plans to slash migration.

The minimum salary needed to get a skilled worker visa will rise from £26,200 to £38,700 next year.

The rise featured in a five-point plan to curb immigration announced by Home Secretary James Cleverly.

He said migration to the UK was "far too high" and there had been "abuse" of health and care visas for years.

Conservative MPs have put Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his government under pressure to act on legal migration, after official figures last week showed net migration hit a record 745,000 last year.

Unfortunately this is also a purge for many foreign talents starting their career in the UK. I work for one of the largest Architecture practise in the UK and it’s shocking that my employers will now have to pay 20% more than my British peers just to keep me. It’s unfair to my employers and my peers.

Whilst I am confident that I can prove my value, I am not confident in the industry’s capacity to nurture and keep talents in the UK anymore.

This is devastating for some of us. My future spouse is a foreign national, I have paid into the system for the past 20 years. I don't make 38k per year. Essentially I'm being black listed from my own country as she can't live with me. Meanwhile undocumented migrants can just show up, this is so fckd up, at least make it easier for people born in the UK. So in short you from next year you will need to earn at least 38k per year if you want a foreign partner, if you're a poor then forget it.

Absolute shambles. As an international student, My parents took home loan and jewellery loan to pay for my tuition fees so I could have better opportunities and lifestyle abroad. I thought I would work it off once I get a graduate job in UK. Now I am left with no work options and tons of loans. Who will give £40k salary to fresh graduates with no experience? I find it disheartening and concerning that there is a situation where individuals from overseas are required to leave their families behind in order to provide care for elderly individuals who are nearing the end of their lives. He says dependents are not working and using gov services without contributing. What about the UK youth who doesn't work and get allowances from the gov. What about refugees who are given free homes and allowances . Even the young people are eating off the money from gov. Nobody looks into that?
