My great grandmother is 102 years old and tells the story of how she was pulled over going 80 miles an hours on a 60 mph road with this song on full blast

My uncle once sang this in a pub in England while in the U.S. Air Force & received uproarious applause.

British people, don’t be mad at this song it’s not just saying how you lost, it said you can run fast!

My dad died two days ago. He used to sing this song to me and my brothers when we were little boys. Nearly 45 years have passed, but I can still hear him singing…

My dad was in the army but when I was little he told me that he was in the war of 1814, I guess because of this song. I believed him until 2nd grade when we were talkin about 1814 in music class and I raised my hand and told the teacher that my dad was in the war of 1814. She asked me if my dad was 200 years old and I told her I didn't know and I would ask when I got home 😂

My grandfather put this song on in his Brown Ford pickup when I was a kid. This reminds me of my childhood and it makes me remember how much I love that old man. I know I may have 10 years left with him at best and I plan to cherish every single moment with him. He taught me everything I know about firearms and got me really passionate about history. If you heard the way he speaks, you'd think he was uneducated but if you listen to what he says you'll see he is a brilliant man. Truly one in a million.

This was some Battle. This is the kind you fantasize about, where you'd ask "Who'd win in a fight?". An Ragtag army of Militiamen, Choctaw Indians, Freed Slaves, US Army Regulars, Sailors, Marines and PIRATES led by Andrew Jackson vs a numerically superior army of Napoleonic era Redcoats and Highlanders.  American History is. Just. Too. Awesome.

My grandpa used to sing this to us all the time. In my family, you knew this song before you were potty trained. He loved making up his own words. We lost my grandpa to a rare disease called Wegner's just a little more than 2 months ago. I miss him terribly.

A bit of a long story but bear with me. As a kid, my dad taught me this song and we would sing it together often. He loved Johnny Horton. Needless to say, it was ingrained in my memory, fondly. Fast forward about 30 years and I had a heart attack at a young age. I needed surgery. As a highly competitive person, I joked with my cardiac surgeon that I could remember the surgery despite anesthesia. He had a good laugh and said SURE, GAME ON. Well --- day of surgery, I'm on the table and I'm determined to remember things to win this bet. He tells the anestheologist to begin and as he does so, he starts his "surgical music". The last thing I remember is the banjo intro and "In 1814 we took a little trip..." I went to sleep with a huge smile on my face and the image of my dad and I singing this song when I was a small child. It was almost as if my dad was right there with me. Anyway, after the surgery, the doc came around and during the conversation I asked him about our bet. He said there's no way you could remember anything with the drugs you were given. I looked him deadass in the eye and began to sing: " IN 1814 WE TOOK A LITTLE TRIP..." The look on his face was fking PRICELESS.

Have to admit Horton really sells it, especially with those hillbilly whoops.

I was reading an Andrew Jackson book to my elderly father, and he started singing part of this song. I was so happy to find it here for him, thank you for posting it with the lyrics! He was thrilled!🙏
