Also, Sr. spent his entire life trying to find the grail. So he also had to “let go” of the grail to save his son

I'm glad his dad saw the knight at the end. Made all his life's work worth the adventure. Awesome ending

The ending is such a vibe riding off into the sunset on horses with the boys

Spielberg points out the obvious, but Lucas points out the deeper meaning. It wasn’t “greed” on Indy’s part, but he wanted a connection with his dad. His dad was obsessed with the Grail, and that’s why Indy wanted to get it. To get the love of his father. When Henry Sr. called his son “Indiana” instead of “Jr.”, he understood his son was more important, and Indiana realized that what he wanted was there all along, and he didn’t need the grail to get it.

Spielberg: Let me tell you all about subtext and how cinematic storytelling works.
Lucas: It's about family and that's what's so powerful about it.

Such a legendary moment... and then top it off with the greatness of John Williams omg ... such an experience of a life time. I wish I could have seen this in theaters omg.

I never thought that Indy was trying to grab it out of greed, but rather he wanted to get it because it meant everything to his father. I always thought it was more his father showing that his son means more to him than the Grail and Indy realizing this.

I wish I could hug my father one last time.

I can't even remember our last conversation or touch. It happened so suddenly.

I just wish I could feel one more bear hug.

The crusader theme (plays when they show the knight) is so sick. Always hit me hard, it's so stirring and mysterious.

This also reminds me of the earlier scene on the zeppelin when his dad says how he taught him “self-reliance” by never telling him what to do, to which Indy responds, “You taught me I was less important than people who had been dead for 500 years.” But in this moment, he finally tells his son to let go of that very thing that had so obsessed him all his life, causing their rift. In the end, his son is more important than any legend and grail. Really beautiful story-telling.

My favorite scene is when Jones Senior and the Knight looks at each other, I always felt some sort of bond, understanding/connection between them at that time

Learning True Respect, Love, Royalty, Understanding, Forgiveness & Letting Go of our Ignorance, Greed & Hatres ... are more important than any temporal worldly possessions ... By doing so, we are heading towards the Light of the Immortal Heavenly Realm ... 🙏 Thank You So Much Master George Lucas & Steven Spielberg for given us the Indiana Jones & his many adventures over the decades! ... 🕯🌍💜🕊

This is why Crusade is the best I feel, because it humanizes the characters

So this issue is that Elsa couldn’t let it go?

Funny how both Return of the Jedi and Last Crusade both dealt with fathers and sons. Both showed how the fathers messed up in the past and then redeemed themselves by saving their sons. Love these movies!

I rewatched all Indy films again (yes, including the 4th one) preparing myself for the 5th one, all I can say is The Last Crusade is probably my favorite, I'm not saying it only because of Sean Connery (R. I. P.) who ofc was great but because it has the best storyline imo, it delves better into Indy's character. At the end Indy does not stay with the girl (who turned out to be evil)
, but he won a better prize and it was the reconciliation with his father.

Thanks Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Harrison Ford for making this series, and also John Williams for bringing again a brilliant score.

I believe, the reason George appreciated the moment of familial love between Indy and his father, is because it reflected the moment between Vader and Luke. Both fathers saved their sons. While the context and circumstances are different, the theme of a father choosing love for his son, and to then save him seems to still be there.
