Dave’s family: we’re going on vacation to unplug, yay!
Dave: not so fast…

I’m familiar with travel routers and multi-WAN routers. But, multi-WAN travel routers? That’s some next level geek!

I'm a trucker, and I have the (older) Spitz X750 LTE router that I use when I don't have access to WiFi. (Like today.) It works incredibly well. So well, in fact, that I bought two more... one for each of the other two providers.

I looked up the Spitz AX router on Amazon. "Starting at seventy-nine bucks" quickly turned into $389.00 AFTER the $100 coupon. That didn't take long, LOL. A very interesting router, but way beyond my needs or budget. Regardless, a well worth watching video. Thank you, Dave!

That thing looks like something I would use at my soldering station to hold everything in place. 🤣

Thanks for generously sharing such helpful and innovative products, Dave! You provide the dense detailed analysis in a way very few can!

I just purchased an improved version of the spitz (same specs + builtin battery called puly ax) right before watching this very detailed explanation - I'm not a heavy traveller but I live in a semi rural place where my main source of internet flicks from time to time and the cellular signal is not that good, hoping these big antenna to provide... looking forward to it! Awesome video

I once used one of the travel style routers to piggy back on the “free” comcast Wi-Fi from our old condo neighbors. Allowed for keeping an eye the Nest thermostat after we moved (before selling the condo) and use a cheap Wyze camera for “security”.

I love the GL.iNet line of products. They have just about every feature you could want and make it easy to use and maintain. Being able to travel around, either to a coffee shop, different country, cross country, you have a single, fairly secure point for all devices to connect. No changing all your devices to a new network you don't know how secure it is. All seamless to the devices. And since they use OpenWRT it can be expanded with plugins, and regular updates.

No simmular reaction dave, ive got a PI that does all that. Dual Wifi, Dual Lan, 2 4/5G Routers and of course a cabled connection. Tied together with PFSence and propper rules, job done, lives in my travel bag and has for probably 10 years now

Nice that they allow using a generic hub on USB, though even better if the USB hub also had a USB C port as well, so that you could connect a powered USB C hub or dock, and have it provide both connectivity and power.

Absolutely LOVE IT! This basically replaces your video from 3 months ago on the portable router.

Hey Qualcomm, Please send Dave a Snapdragon X Elite Dev kit! He loves to show & tell 🙂

Also a fan of GL.iNet routers. OTOH, Beryl AX is more portable, more open (current OpenWRT), much less expensive.

I see that this device would probably be great for truckers crossing borders frequently - like US and Canada.
But even dual sim could be insufficient for some use cases, even more with automatic transfer between SIMs.

These things are great. They even have this same unit with a built in battery as well.

I only go away every so often, so I'm thinking of just using an old Thinkpad X280 and Mobile Hotspot mode, whilst also using this as a NAS and for Entertainment.

I have the same router and it never gave me any problems. OpenWRT is rock solid and super flexible and it allows you to do pretty much anything. I mostly use it with Wireguard turned on 'cause it allows all the traffic to be routed via a VPN and be safe but most importantly it serves as an ad blocker on my mobile which is invaluable. The only thing that I couldn't get to work is Tor when you specify a specific country as exit node, but I don't use it anyway, so it's fine.
