John (the English equivalent of Jehohanan that means "Jehovah Has Shown Favor, Jehovah Has Been Gracious", in which there were 9 different persons named this in the Hebrew Scriptures, commonly called "the Old Testament") the Baptist, whose birth was miraculous (Luke 1:7-17), did NOT proclaim ' the coming of God ' (at 0.38 seconds into the video), as if Jesus was "God manifest", but fulfilled Isaiah 40:3: "A voice of one calling out in the wilderness: “Clear up the way of Jehovah !(God's name, see Isa 12:2, KJV) Make a straight highway through the desert for our God", for the coming of God's Messiah as "the messenger of the (new) covenant (for a kingdom)".(Mal 3:1; see Luke 22:29)


At Matthew 3, the apostle Matthew wrote, quoting Isaiah 40:3: "In those days (or late 28 C.E. to fall of 29 C.E.) John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Ju·deʹa (see Luke 3:1-3), saying: “Repent, for the Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.” This, in fact, is the one spoken of through Isaiah the prophet in these words: “A voice of one calling out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of Jehovah ! Make his roads straight.’”(Matt 3:1-3)


John prepared the nation of fleshly Israel for the arrival of the promised Messiah (Hebrew meaning "anointed one", with its Greek equivalent of Christ) in the latter half of 29 C.E., as Daniel 9:24, 25 said, that established the exact year when the Messiah would arrive (or upon the completion of 69 "weeks of years", or 483 years "from the issuing of the word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem until Mes·siʹah the Leader, there will be 7 weeks, also 62 weeks", from the starting time of 455 B.C.E.).


John wore clothing of camel hair and a leather girdle around his loins, similar to the dress of the prophet Elijah. John’s food consisted of insect locusts and wild honey. (2 Kings 1:8; Matt 3:4; Mark 1:6) He was a teacher and was, accordingly, called “Rabbi” by his disciples.(John 3:26)


John preached baptism for forgiveness of sins for those repenting, confining his baptism to Jews and proselytes to the Judaism.(Mark 1:1-5; Acts 13:24) John’s being sent was a manifestation of God’s loyal love toward the Jews.


They were in a covenant relationship with Jehovah but were guilty of sins committed against the Law covenant. John brought to their attention that they had broken the covenant, and he urged honesthearted ones to repentance. Their water baptism symbolized this repentance. Then they were in line to recognize the Messiah.(Acts 19:4)


All sorts of persons came to John to be baptized, including prostitutes and tax collectors.(Matt 21:32) There also came to the baptism Pharisees and Sadducees, against whom John directed a scathing message of denunciation and to whom he spoke of the judgment that was near at hand. He did not spare them, calling them “offspring of vipers” and pointing out that their reliance on fleshly descent from Abraham was of no value.(Matt 3:7-12)


Shortly after baptizing Jesus in the late summer/early autumn of 29 C.E., John the Baptist was put into prison by king Herod Antipas (Matt 4:12; 14:1-4), and whereby Herod had John beheaded possibly in late 31 or early 32 C.E.(Matt 14:5-13)


John the Baptist was not among those chosen to be "a kingdom of priests and a holy nation" (Ex 19:5, 6), as a member of God's heavenly Kingdom, for Jesus told the Jews: "What did you go out into the wilderness (at the Jordan River) to see ? A reed being tossed by the wind ? What, then, did you go out to see ? A man dressed in soft garments ? Why, those wearing soft garments are in the houses of kings. Really, then, why did you go out ? To see a prophet ? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written: ‘ Look ! I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way ahead of you ! ’ Truly I say to you, among those born of women, there has not been raised up anyone greater than John the Baptist, but a lesser person in the Kingdom of the heavens is greater than he is."(Matt 11:7-11)

John sent his disciples to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah so they, the disciples of John would gain their own witness of Christ's divinity for themselves because John knew of his impending death. These disciples of John would then know and follow Jesus, becoming His disciples. John never doubted.
