The thing that discourages me is when a buyer scams me and eBay doesn’t support me

Ridiculous high fees is making sellers leaving

The fees are outrageous. They cut into so much of your profits. And then i got an email the other day saying they have to report my small earnings to the IRS? Ive already paid taxes once on my items. Im just reselling. In fact, it isnt even a profit because im selling used items for less.

People are quitting because eBay sales have plummeted. I've sold for over 2 years and have been listing like a madman for the last 2 months with zero increase in sales. I'm consistently listening daily.

I’ve been selling for 3 months and I’m currently at $7, 800 in sales. I list when I have time. I have listed everyday before and my sells are the same either way. ( so I do not stress over that whole list everyday thing) what I have learned the past 3months…There are good days and bad days with sales. I steer clear of heavier items unless it’s really going to bring a good profit bc the shipping costs are ridiculous. I offer free shipping. Most things I do not sell with best offer. I set a reasonable price for the buyer but one that still makes profit. I do have a few heavier items that are still listed from before I realized those items are not worth the $3 profit I will make in the end, so i added calculated shipping to those items and in the description box I stated that the shipping was calculated from my location to theirs and I do not make profit off of the shipping. Being open and honest will get you way more sales. People know if a listing looks shady it probably is… like an item listed for $5 and $45 for shipping. That is just an insult to a buyer, they are not dumb but doing that basically makes them feel like the seller assumes they are also I can not stress this enough, take GOOD pictures!!! As someone who also buys a lot on EBay and other sites when I come across an item with one picture and a wimpy description it pisses me off and I immediately move on. Take the pictures as if you were the one looking to buy the item. I promise this makes a huge difference. What would you want to know about the item if you were buying it personally. Lastly, I stick to name brand items that are popular and in really good shape. Meaning just because you find a north face jacket doesn’t mean it will sell for $80 if the Zipper doesn’t work and the arms are ripped off 😂 if you do sell it for cheap and make sure to state the flaws and take pictures. People will still buy flawed items when you are honest about the flaws. I sell lots of them but I make sure it’s known. I know this is long. But I hope it may help someone, somewhere ❤

I've been selling on eBay for quite awhile now, mostly for fun and gearing up to have some extra income when I retire in a few years if needed. My biggest problem with eBay is that they allow obvious scam artists to give negative feedback. Example: "Item was delivered but was stolen from my mailbox". eBay allowed that negative feedback. I could go on.

I have been selling on eBay for nearly 5 years. I have had a very successful reselling career. But…I’m quitting…and there are multiple reasons why others are as well. Higher thrift prices, lower sales prices, less sales velocity, higher fees, eBay’s moving target and no playbook provided…all businesses require adjustments thru the years…but time vs profitability is always the determining factor…and for me and many others the math is no longer mathing. Time to be smart and shift gears elsewhere.

With that being said..for those staying or just getting here…Chris is one worth following.

It's extremely difficult to buy and list new items when you're not selling anything on the platform and your sales are down by 60%. eBay continually makes changes for the worse and we all suffer that's why they're leaving...

Ebay used to be awesome. Now they constantly change the rules and the goal post while charging higher fees

I really appreciate your videos. Whenever I feel like I can't do this or nothing is going to work out I pop on one of your videos and it gives me insight and keeps me grounded. I have learned so much from listening just wanted to say thank you for all the help.

Great informative video. My problems are (as a very small seller) the FEES. I sell sports cards sparingly, here and there. It's pretty disheartening when I sell something for almost $91, and receive $70. Or sell something for $30 and receive $24. This is bull crap. Feebay is raking in dough and doesn't GAF...as someone who does this sparingly as a side-hustle. What would really help is if they didn't also calculate FEES on shipping and taxes. Such a farce.

You made me feel a lot better. No expectations from now on, thank you😊

Well where do I begin ... ebay sellers leave for a plethora of reasons, here's just a few: Believing youtube videos of sellers showing "haul" videos with ridiculously inflated prices (ex: I'll sell this crappy old life is good t-shirt for $25 - $30), believing that all you need to do is "list at least 10 items a day", Unable to find enough "desirable/sellable" items to be able to LIST CONSISTENTLY, Unable to afford to purchase more inventory (so that you can list consistently) because your sales are so slow. When you start studying certain successful seller's stores it's very very obvious that they (mostly) have the same thing in common - HUGE stores with THOUSANDS of listings and they list large quantities of new listings daily - more than your average person can find (one lists 50 a day - there's no way I can find 350 "desirable" items every week!!! So in conclusion I think many ebay sellers leave because they're expecting the same results that they see/read about! And no, I'm not making excuses - these are all simply facts ;)

Ebay sales are hard work.
That is what I think as an outsider. I admire all of you who put in the hours and passion.
I find loads of things I could sell, I have even prepared an eBay room in my I set it up for someone else to one day that someone will walk through the door. I'll be ready to help, but I can't imagine doing it by myself. Congratulations to all of you, wishing you a great 2023!

eBay kicked me off in 2009 for "substandard DSR ratings" after being a full-time seller for 10 years, and having a 99% Positive feedback rating. They shot me in the heart and took away my livelihood at a time when I absolutely could not lose my source of income.

I have been on ebay for over 20 years and have had over 12, 000 sales. I'm frustrated. I buy estates and abandoned storage lockers. I have been listing aggressively. I have 1, 600 listings in my store now. And I'm selling 1 to 2 items every other day or so. There was a time when I was selling 8 to 10 items a day and more. I'm retired now and am doing this as a supplement to my social security. Oh well. Getting tired of eBay anyway...

I find Small Ebay sellers quit because they don't necessarily see instant results. People are conditioned to want everything here and now and things don't always work out that way. People treat it as a hobby and not as a job.

The whole point of end and selling similar is to fix old inventory and constantly rotating your inventory. Shadow ban doesn’t exist. eBay encourage to keep updating your inventory. The main point of ending and selling similar is to correct the algorithm that isn’t working for that item based on the previous title and Cassini is smart but not that smart if you change pictures around change title change price and increase promotion it works I’ve been doing eBay 12 + yes .I’ve had items sell straight after ending and selling similar, with in days. I disagree. Not everyone can afford to list additional hundred items instead of revising 100 items a day. you have to look at things from a different perspective. Rotating your inventory instead of just adding to it and making it grow. You should be rotating and selling through old inventory as well as adding new.

I very much appreciate that you stick to facts and numbers, and you address problems and concerns from the reselling community pragmatically. ❤
