*Causes:*

- Bacteria (most common cause): Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella pneumoniae
- Viruses: Influenza, Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Adenovirus
- Fungi: Pneumocystis jirovecii (PCP)

*Symptoms:*

- Cough (may produce yellow or green mucus)
- Fever (may be high)
- Chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chest pain that worsens with deep breathing or coughing
- Fatigue
- Confusion (especially in older adults)

*Types:*

- Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP): Caught outside of hospitals or healthcare facilities
- Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP): Developed in hospitals or healthcare facilities
