Thanks for the instruction on pulling the ball. Had a lot of issues with that last season and it became very frustrating. Will take a look at my take away now and eliminate the pull for this season.

Todd, your teaching tips videos are excellent!. They provide really good camera views to go along with just the right amount of detail to explain faults and fixes in an easily understood manner. I just watched “How to stop Pulling Your iron shots”. I am looking forward to getting to the range to see if your advice regarding the hip movement fault fixes part of my problem. I say part because I not only pull my irons but hook them as well, i.e. pull hooks add many strokes to my score. Hoping your next video covers “pull hooks”. Thanks for your great work.

Thanks for the great tips to look at. Only pulling my irons, not driver, so will look at these checks on the range.

Thanks Todd. Yes I do pull some. I will be looking at transition as I started as a swayer. Great tip..

Thank you! This problem crept into my irons about a month ago. I realize now that I was moving my weight onto my back foot.

Definitely the transition for me getting stuck with my weight back on the trailing side.

As I am sure you will agree, it's complicated. The move you illustrate can certainly cause the face to point left of the target and create pulls. It can also cause tops, strikes on the toe, and/or pushes to the right as the club is pulled away from the intended swing path. On the other hand (and there is always an other hand), in your solution you do shift your hips and thighs a bit toward the target. There are excellent instruction videos supported by sophisticated technology like GEARS that show that sliding toward the target during the downswing reduces or subtracts from clubhead speed. They show that pros swing against a stiffened lead leg (left leg for right handers) and their lead hip, or buttock, rotates, or pulls back, creating turn and greater clubhead speed. The concept is a bit like cracking a whip. The hand that grasps the handle moves back, like a baseball pitch or golf backswing, then quickly moves forward, like the start of a baseball pitch or golf downswing, but then stops hard, puts the brakes on, causing the whip to accelerate forward. If the hand does not stop, but keeps moving forward, it offsets the speed of the tip of the whip. So the golfer gains clubhead speed by shifting weight forward at the start of the downswing, the so-called "bump", but then bracing the forward leg, NOT allowing it to slide toward the target, and pulling the left hip back, creating turn. The club head then picks up speed in the same way that the tip of the whip did. I get this and have been trying to put it into practice, but it is a lot harder to execute than it seems, especially on the course, precisely for the reasons I mentioned. As you show, you have to avoid firming the left leg pushing you backward. The effort to brace the left leg and pull the left hip back can also cause early extension, pulling just slightly away from the ball, causing weak contact on the toe, or even leaving the face open, causing a high push to the right. Argh. It's complicated.

Todd,
I've seen you demo 3 different wedges, the MUL 40 degree, the Dune wedge 56 degree, and the Yuma 37 degree. Of the 3, which one would the best choice for an amateur senior golf. Always enjoy your segments. Thanks.

When watching this video I see you state to not have club faced closed when bringing the club back. However, if one puts the club on the ground and brings it back without consciously rotating wrist or arm or anything, the club face will actually look closed about 10-20 degrees when it reaches waist height. Wondering if you can comment on this. Thanks for your videos. Enjoy watching them.

I pull and yes I bet my face is closed. How do I keep my weight on my left foot ( right handed ) on my take away and then transition? I concentrate so much on the 60/40 but hard on the transition or downswing.

You had me all the way to the left hip backing out and then you jumped into the solution and I didn't catch the magic. Keep the weight onto the forward left left? Turn around the forward left leg? Between the better aligned club face at take away and at the top the follow through if moving the weight on the left side will help create the feel of releasing the club face straight instead off to the left?

As a lefty I tend to pull my 9i and wedges usually right of the pin. Could be my club is closed or my hands are too low.

Todd, I have a mental block on my take away. Some days I crush my driver, other days I can't take it back fast enough. Pull hook city. Help

I think that I am leaning down with my leading shoulder. My ball flight is pull left or big draw. Then i am way right and hit a pull hook. Or i will hit it straight but off line 15 yrds. I have had my left hip replaced, left knee and right ankle replaced. Now my right n]knee may need replacing. My friends say that i look like i am just swinging my arms. no rotation. My swing change everytime I have surgery.lol... I am only 53. I used to be a 6 hcp. I cant break 80 now. Thanks

I believe that my pull shots are caused mainly by my subconscious working in the background to prevent a slice. In addition when under pressure, my swing is more of a raised left elbow in the downswing (away from the body).

Hi Todd, I hit my irons straight but I pull my driver straight left. What can be the reason?

I seem to pull more shots if my lie is uphill. Is there an adjustment that can be made?
