Ariel is the ONLY Disney princess to have a child. Everyone forgets about Melody..

The Little Mermaid is probably one of my favorite Disney movies of all time, and it kind of always has been since I used to watch it like every day when I was around 3-4. My dad used to pretend he was King Triton for me sometimes and he always said I looked like Ariel because of my red hair, and I used to cry whenever the movie ended because i loved it so much. Ah, memories.

The Live action version with Chloe Moretz is from Universal Pictures not Disney therefore she is not Ariel. They're following the darker theme of the original story. Disney's Live action version is in development with Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda partnering for the songs but no one has been cast yet. And the picture that was shown whenever Howard Ashman was mentioned, that's not Howard Ashman. Howard Ashman passed away in 1991 at age 40.

Nice video but I noticed some things. 2:43 That image is that of Thomas Schumader,  not Howard Ashman. 3:24 I can hear music that was used in Christmas with Sonic in Paradise. 9:01 Glenn Keane actually worked on the Beast, not Belle.

I think the story takes place somewhere on a European cost of the Mediterranean Sea (perhaps Greece). I based this off of several hints from the original story and the movie. For example:
Book:
- The prince is described as having coal black eyes and raven hair (this obviously doesn’t settle anything, but a Mediterranean/ Arabic prince is much more likely to be so dark than a central or northern European one)
- The beaches are described as having fine, white sand with lofty palm trees, orange trees, and citron trees (all three of which can only easily be grown in tropical to sub-tropical climates such as in the Mediterranean)
- The rolling green hills have grape vines on them (this at least rules out Denmark- see grape- growing regions of Europe below)
- The convent is specifically described as being built of white material (immediately putting one in mind of Mediterranean architecture) and the palace of yellow stone with long flights of marble steps, gilded cupolas, pillars, and marble statues (reminiscent of Greek and Italian architecture)
- The little mermaid was given robes of silk and muslin and wore silk and gold to the wedding (perhaps doesn’t mean much but that’s two of her outfits that include silk and silk was most widely popular in the Mediterranean where it was directly imported and later manufactured)
- The prince had female slaves who wore silk and gold and danced (that doesn’t sound European at all, that’s much more likely Middle Eastern)

Movie:
- The chef is French and Ariel and Eric buy baguettes in the village (French influence)
- The castle architecture (see below) looks very similar to “Mediterranean architecture homes” (see below)
- Grapes shown in the village
- Palm trees shown in the village and palace
- Onion dome shown in village (possibly Middle Eastern influence)
- Arabic-style windows shown in the village (Middle Eastern influence)
- Sebastian originally was supposed to have an English accent instead of a Jamaican one. He was changed mostly to create a more specific musical style.

In conclusion, the best place in which you can find Middle Eastern, French, Greek, and Italian influences with a tropical climate is along the European shore in the Mediterranean. Possibly Greece.

There are currently 2 live-action Little Mermaid movies being developed by major studios:

1. UNIVERSAL
2. DISNEY

UNIVERSAL is more faithful to the original Andersen's story and casts Chloe Grace Moretz (who now quitted the project)

DISNEY is based more on the 1989 Disney animation. It will be a musical. With Alan Menken returning as composer and will be joined as Hamilton's Lin Manuel Miranda to add new music.

The one you are talking about is Universal's.

Here's another fact Samuel E. Wright the person who did the voice of Sebastian also played Mufasa in the original Broadway cast of "The Lion King".

The flowing intro ripples set a perfect mood of gentle currents. The raised 4th (e.g. F# not F) invokes both wide-eyed wonder at "this stuff... isn't it neat?" and a wish to be "part of that world."
