When the ice goes in the artic - a 'blue water event' - then that's it basically. We could have a summer without ice in the artic any time in the next ten years - perhaps not in the near future but more and more likey as the years go on with pretty much a dead certainty around ten years from now. And it'll be the equivelant of adding 25% more greenhouse effect than we have already produced in carbon emissions over the last few decades because less sun light will be reflected off dark water than light ice (with the corresponding increase in energy absorption into the planets oceans rather than being reflected out into space).

Weather patterns will be highly disrupted in the case of a blue water event - effecting food production all over the globe. The increase of heat in the artic means the threat of an artic release of methane is frighteningly on the horizon - with scientists currently scrambling to find out what is going on with regards the risk of methane in the artic - as we just don't know how serious the risk is yet... It is a terrifying unknown. As just a small amount of release of the vast quantities of methane in the artic would be catastrophic. Methane is a much stronger greenhouse gas than CO2. A small release of methane could easily double our current greenhouse effect.

Reading the report from Jem Bendell "Deep Adaption: A Map for Navigating Climate Tragedy" - it is hard not to come to the conclusion that we are headed for massive disruption of civilisation in the near future. If we're all still around in 10 to 20 years then we are all going to have a massive case of the piles basically. But of course for many in the world, conditions are already apocalypitic.

Economically the worry is that too much uncertainty will be created in the finance sector - with banks only holding a small fraction of the capital that is on their balance sheets, it wouldn't take much to cause a financial crash. It's a good job greedy capitalists blew up the banking sector/sovereign banks tens years ago to severely weaken it's resilience to financial shocks then!

I don't know a great deal about this group as I discovered it only two days ago, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I find their methods of direct action and their reach to be really impressive, and I give them my support; I'm even considering joining them. However, from what I read on their website and their social media accounts, they appear to be quite directionless with respect to a method for solution. Their core seems to be direct action and activism in order to force the authorities to make changes in their climate policies. There is no systemic critique of neither capitalism nor the State. Their ideological basis strikes me as single-issue eco-liberalism, mistaken by the organizers (as liberals so often do) to be ideologically neutral. Therefore, it does not surprise me when some of their actions include blocking roads, which is ultimately an attack on workers who are dependent on these roads for transport in order to perform their work. It is only indirectly an attack on capitalism and the State, both of which rely on wage slavery to function. I do not find throwing workers under the bus for the climate an acceptable line of action. That being said, their spirit and other activism is very encouraging, and I believe that there is a very real potential for these people to be directed by socialist and communist theory. In any case, their activists have a somewhat greater impact than armchair warriors like myself. Therefore I am very much interested in joining their actions if they turn out to be susceptible to socialist and communist theory.

Their tactics are flawed. They have succeeded in bringing together people who already held the view which they promote. But they have failed to convince people on the other side or in the middle. Something needs to happen but this is not it.
