The Earth’s Spin Is Slowing Down! What Happens If It Stops?

Life on Earth has adapted to our 24 hour day, but the Earth’s spin is slowing down. What would it be like to live on an Earth that stops spinning?

Read More:

What Would Happen if Earth Stopped Spinning?
“Have you ever wondered what would happen if the Earth stopped spinning? You can probably guess that it would not result in anything good, in fact, it would be disastrous. If the Earth stopped spinning suddenly, most people on Earth would die. If the Earth slowed down gradually, it would be absolutely devastating, but there is a chance some people could survive.”

Baby Moon-Birthing Collision Slapped Earth Sideways
“While we think of the moon as a familiar, unchanging sight, when compared with the other moons in the solar system it's a bit weird. Earth's moon is relatively big compared to our planet, its orbit is far from Earth and its tilt is huge.”

Did Ancient Planet Collision Allow Life to Thrive?
“Life-giving carbon can be found all over the Earth's surface, but how it got there has been a mystery.”

“2 nights back to back, the sun will rise from the west. On that day believing would be meaningless, as it is the end times” - Q’uran

Soon we will have a saying like "You Only Have 25 hours in a day, use it wisely."

The earth is slowing down, so slow that it will stop for a second and then start to turn the other way and when that happens the sun WILL appear from the West instead of the east. At that moment EVERYONE will believe.

When earth rotation will reverse that will be end of earth as I believe.

Its ironic that when we get older, days actually seem more shorter now than they did 30 years ago.

Give Earth some asteroid weed, it will start spinning EXTREMELY fast again....

I honestly cannot worry about life a billion years from now. We didnt even exist half a million years ago. Just enjoy what we have now.

1 Day ago : The Earth is spinning faster.

What I dont like about when people discuss the slowdown of Earth's rotation is the overlooked fact that the Earth's shape would relax into a more perfect sphere. So the equatorial supercontinent won't form unless the Earth stops spinning suddenly.

What's new in this. Quran told this 1400 years ago.. Every Educated Muslim knows about it..

Slowing of rotation is also a symptom of magnetic reversal/impending poleflip. Earths magnetic field is weakening over 1% per year since 2010 compared to its strength in the 1800s. Its over 15% weaker than the 1800s at the exact same time earths magnetic poles are exponentially increasing in speed as the magnetic poles are moving towards each other.

All of this is symtpomatic of a magnetic reversal. Earth is twice overdue for one, and head of NASAs SWARM project has publicly stated 'Earths poles are getting ready to flip.'

This video spoke only on byproducts of these symptoms.

No matter what happens, we can rest easy knowing tomorrow is a new day. (This was a joke, the possibility of mass extinction is very possible and is becoming more and more plausable every day.)

Since earth spun faster in the past, were things less heavy back then(isn’t gravity pulling us down while momentum from earths spin is creating a force away from earth)? If yes, could this explain these huge boulder wall and pyramids around the world and help explain how some civilizations claim to have lived hundreds of years(I guess earths spin wouldn’t affect the time the earth takes to circle the sun)?

The statement that "A non-rotating Earth would have a day that's half a year of daylight and half a year of nighttime, similar to tidally locked planets like Mercury" is incorrect. If the Earth was tidally locked like Mercury, it would always present the same face to the Sun -- that side would have constant sunshine -- and have a face permanently faced away from the Sun -- permanently dark. It would have no specific day or night - wherever you are on the planet would always have the same amount of light.
Now, if any planet was locked in sidereal space -- relative to distant stars as opposed to the Sun -- *then* it would have a day that is half the period of its orbit.
I'm surprised - usually Keeper is better written than this.

Large earthquakes (above magnitude 9, 0) can speed up Earth rotation for a short period of time. Last time that happened was i 2004 when the Mw9, 1 - Mw9, 3 Sumatra earthquake happened. It also resulted in the Earth to wobble on its axis for up to 2, 5cm and up to 6cm.
