War in Ukraine overshadows Finland vote | DW News

In Finland, voters are going to the polls on Sunday to elect a new president. The position is mainly ceremonial but the person who holds the job is in charge of foreign and security policy — two roles that have grown massively in importance since neighbouring Russia launched its war against Ukraine.

Reporter anticipated votes would go along party lines… anyone who know anything about Finnish politics could have told you that SDP and Left Alliance voters will mostly vote for Green Party candidate Haavisto.

As a Finn myself, I have to note that life get's a lot tougher for everyone when Finland is a relevant party in terms of geopolitics. We are the borderguards of Mordor, and we would prefer the border to be uneventful.

At 5:30 In Finnish elections, early ballots are counted before the voting ends. I have not heard that this would not be the case now. The counting of votes is fast as the voting areas are small, and it is unlikely we would not know the winners during late Sunday evening.

It should be noted that the account shown for Jussi Halla-aho is not his nor is it official, it is a fanpage. Halla-aho has not created an account on tiktok

I am finnish. Just voted, but cannot see clear difference between top 4 candidates. Also none of them is clearly better than others. Its not like in the USA where the two candidates can be totally different.
