The Salley Gardens est composé en 1940 par Benjamin Britten à partir d'une mélodie traditionnelle sur un poème de Wiliam Butler Yeats publié dans The Wanderings of Oisin and Other Poems en 1889. La chanson appartient aux six volumes d'arrangements du compositeur consacrés aux mélodies folkloriques d'Angleterre, d'Écosse, du Pays de Galles et d'Irlande.

I always preferred this piano arrangement. Why can't I ever find it anywhere? All other Sally Gardens are more folksy. I'm so happy to finally find this one.

C'est un poème de William Butler Yeats sur une mélodie traditionnelle "The Maids of Mourne Shore".
Peut-être que l'accompagnement au piano vient de Britten, mais cela n'en fait pas une de ses œuvres !
