I find that metal baking trays make good palettes. I found an old rusty one and covered it with five coats of white gesso before putting paint in it. It has twelve sunken circles for making small cakes, that keep each colour separate. Also the weight of the metal stops it sliding around.

Thank you for these tips! My first tutorial was Moon Dreams and my moon color was a bit off. I definitely had a lot of dry paint and wasn't using enough of it either. So much I don't know!
