As a mature man, one can bare to watch these now, but as a boy the dangers faced by the Doctor's female companions shredded this writer's nerves and seemed to overshadow other, more 'real world' concerns. Then came Peri and she was in a class of her own...and also endlessly faced by the horrendous trials of execution, radiation poisoning, torture, dragons, madmen, transformations, being made into the main course....it was too much!
Yet when watching the shows themselves, still that frisson of fear for poor Peri and her illustrious predecessors is always there and may it always be there, for one has learnt to enjoy it at last!
