Is Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN) the BEST Treatment for Fibromyalgia? | Rheumatologist Dr. Micah Yu

Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN) is gaining attention as a promising treatment for fibromyalgia, a chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and issues with sleep, memory, and mood.

LDN, a lower dose of the opioid antagonist naltrexone, is commonly used to treat autoimmune and chronic pain conditions.

By modulating the immune system and reducing inflammation, LDN can help alleviate pain and improve symptoms associated with fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia affects millions worldwide and amplifies painful sensations by altering how the brain processes pain signals.

Symptoms can be triggered by physical trauma, surgery, infection, or significant psychological stress, with women being more likely to develop this condition than men.

Effective management of fibromyalgia often involves a combination of medications, lifestyle changes, and stress management techniques.

Unlike higher doses of naltrexone, which block opioid receptors, LDN operates through different mechanisms, providing potential relief for fibromyalgia sufferers.

For those seeking effective fibromyalgia management, understanding the potential benefits of Low-Dose Naltrexone is crucial.

This comprehensive approach offers hope for better symptom control and an improved quality of life for fibromyalgia patients.

Hi Dr. Yu—my current rheumatologist just grudgingly acknowledged that my “diagnosis” of fibromyalgia could be correct. I’m on my third rheumatologist because I am not being listened to, which is beyond frustrating. The previous doctors got exasperated with me because my body can’t tolerate a lot of the RA medications without severe side effects. Finally Xeljanz handles the pain in my joints but the muscular pain and extreme fatigue from fibromyalgia is another layer to my RA experience. Thank you for acknowledging that in this video. I am currently getting a massage (as often as I can afford it) to get rid of the knots in my leg muscles and I use roll-on lidocaine or Penetrex (from Amazon). I’m making a note about the LDN for future reference.

I have used ldn for long covid. It has really helped me, but I understand that it doesn't work for everyone. I'm on 6ml per day and I've been on it for 2 years. No side effects noticed in my case

I've been taking LDN 4.5 for a year now for polymyalgia rheumatica. I also use Plaquenil, 2-300, a day, 400 one day 200 the next. I honestly can't tell if either work at all. Tapered from 20 prednisone now down to 3.5 in 18 months. Still symptomatic so staying on 3.5 for probably another couple of months. I hoped PMR would go into remission about now, my father had it for 18 months.
