Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Thursday an increase in the size of his country's military by 137,000 troops.

The move comes as his forces seem to have got bogged down in Ukraine and have not been able to make significant progress for some time now.

The new order calls for boosting the number of Russia's available combat personnel from 1.01 million to 1.15 million and is set to go into effect on January 1, 2023

The decree did not specify how the troop increase would be achieved. Russia could, for instance, pursue a larger draft of conscripts or look for ways to increase volunteer service.

In this video Defense Updates analyzes why President Putin has ordered an increase in the size of the Russian Army?

He is not increasing his force by 137, 000 troops. He is replacing his lost 137, 000 troops.

Sources say the new recruits will be promised flight pay if they crew tanks.

The “not a war” is going according to plan and part of that plan was to field another 130, 000 troops 6 months in. Recruiting and training them in advance was not part of the plan. This plan is such a work of genius. There must have actually been a bullet point in the plan saying “Don’t start recruiting and training the massive August wave of troops until August.”

An enlistment perk is a new Mosin-Nagant rifle packed in cosmoline complete with 1930 vintage corrosive ammo still in sardine cans! What a Winner!

This is nothing new as more conscripts means more disaster for Russia because what counts most is the will to fight as some of the conscripts are even turning against military tactic. So let us see how fast this additional 137, 000 conscripts will last.

137K casualties, just sending more untrained military to their demise.

Just when Ukraine was going to run out of targets,
Putin comes up with 137, 000 more, just in time.
Thank you, Putin.

The funny thing, with logistics never being that good, and Ukraine hitting them there continuously, more troops could actually make things worse for Russia.
They'll need food, ammunition, equipment, and fuel. Russia will never be able to feed and resupply more soldiers than they already have.
Things are already desperate for them right now.

9, 000 Ukrainian DEAD…many more wounded. The Russians have lost probably four to five times that number if one goes with conservative estimates. That’s still reeeeally high. The U.S. lost that many in a decade in Vietnam. Russia lost theirs in six months. That’s horrific.

It’s a replacement figure.

Putin would have to lowball the need by 10%-20% to save face. So that puts the casualty figure closer to 150k-165k.

If you use a 3x figure for casualties then the figures the Ukrainians use that puts casualties at 138k. If you use captured Russian phone calls then that casualty rate is closer to 3.5 or 4.0. That gets you closer to 150k plus.
