How to IMPORT ALPHA layers into Davinci Resolve 17 - Black Background Fix

Once again Davinci Resolve has some weird default choices set up here and if you don't know where you're looking it can be a nightmare to figure out how to get around it.

Hopefully this helps anyone that was stuck with this issue to sort it out!

Super helpful!! This issue had been bothering me on several projects. For newer Davinci Resolve 17+ versions, I changed it to "Premultiplied" in the clip attributes, then changed Composite Mode to "Alpha" in clip inspector to remove the darkening effect. Hope this helps :)

Thank you so much; I even contacted Apple Support for my Keynote Export to ProRes 4444, thinking there was an issue with the Alpha Channel. I'm not sure why sometimes it is working properly in Davinci without any modification, and other times I need to do what you've shown in your video.

Thank you so much for this! This helped to remove some unwanted black border lines on my graphics. I still get a low contrast overlay, and don't have the option to choose Field Dominance, but thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction!

I'm using v17, but that option was not available under clip attributes. There was another option there (Data Levels) defaulting to "auto", but changing to full (which is also how I exported the alpha clip) gets rid of that overlay.

it is very weird that a video editor that you would think deals with a lot of alpha channel videos don't accept alpha channels as default

I had a problem today with an Alpha video. There's a color shift in the file. I've tried changing the alpha mode, but no success. Still don't know what the problem is.
I tried importing the same file to Premiere Pro and the colors are fine. I had to finish the video the video in Premiere to deliver to the client, but the hunt for the solution continues.
