There's a reason this doesn't work at all, you forgot a very important step.
@1:45 you need to select the RGBA in the color setting. Without doing that, it's not using the alpha channel.
Took me forever to figure this out.

If your video is coming out choppy change the keyframe interval to 1. It should work in both EEVEE and Cycles. Yer welcome 🙃 Thanks for the tutorial! Tired of rendering out png sequences for my video overlays. This will help me tremendously!

Hello There! I have a question. Are you using the latest Blender version 4.1.1?. Because I've been having Choppy video result issues with the video codec qt rle animation. And when I was import the Alpha transparency video mov file to Davinci Resolve. I'm starting to get strange weird results of how the video frames was starting to show. And I don't know if you're having the same issue as I am. If not, is there away that I can fix the video codec alpha transparency issue?

How to you export as PNGS to edit into the editor and keep it as alpha?

So I guess the next question is how do you render just the background, because if you're going to compose it all this together you'll need a separate shot of just the background to put all your foreground objects on top of. And it seems inconvenient to have to go to the outliner and turn off the render properties for all my objects in order to get this. Is there some way to render just the background as a hold out layer?
