Armour Thyroid versus Synthroid

In this video, we're going to talk about Armour Thyroid and Synthroid. What is the main difference between them, and is Armour Thyroid better than Synthroid?

Synthroid

Synthroid is a synthetic thyroid hormone—T4. T4 has to be converted into T3 to be active. Another name for T4 is levothyroid or levothyroxine.

• It takes 4 weeks to start making changes.
• If you're not converting T4 to T3, Synthroid is not going to work.

Armour Thyroid

This is a natural extract from a pig's thyroid.

• It contains T4, T3, and calcitonin (an important thyroid hormone).
• It takes 2 weeks to start making changes.

Some symptoms of a hypothyroid:

• Tired
• Cold
• Hair loss
• Mental sluggishness
• Weight gain

*I believe most hypothyroid problems are secondary to something else.

Other natural thyroid extracts:
• Nature Throid
• NP Thyroid

If you have a negative reaction to T4, T3, or calcitonin, and you have extreme fatigue or flu-like symptoms—you may have Hashimoto's. If you have Hashimoto's and you take thyroid extracts, it will make you very tired. Or, you may also be having a reaction because of some of the inactive ingredients in the product.

Armour vs. Synthroid
I personally like Armour Thyroid, but I'm not telling you to take one versus the other. I just want to give you some information so that you can do further research.

I am on Armour Thyroid now. It gave me my life back.

I've been down this road, and it was a nightmare. I had low thyroid function and it manifested itself as heart palpitations and low energy. I thought I was dying. I couldn't go up stairs without stopping halfway and sitting down. The endocrinologist I saw put me on synthroid. After several months of zero results, I'd had enough. I located a source online that both educated me about the thyroid gland, and gave me a protocol to get healthy. Desicated bovine thyroid and desiccated bovine adrenal, taken daily to balance my endocrine system and allow healing to take place. Worked like a charm! In 6 months I was off the supplements and back to normal. That was 20 years ago. The doctor would have had me in synthroid MY WHOLE LIFE, and that was unacceptable to me. Fix yourselves, people! Western medicine is a trap.

Thank you for this video. Thyroid removed 8 years ago due to cancer. I started with Levo (life was horrible) and am now on NP Thyroid. I have energy, and now go on 15 mile hikes with my hubby every weekend. 💜💜

On 2010 I had a total thyroid removal and was on synthroid for about a year... the forgetfulness was awful, it affected my job. I switched doctor and he gave me Armour and problem solved. Thanks Dr Berg for explaining this. Many doctors are reluctant to prescribe any different than synthroid.

Diagnosed for a possible goiter years ago I was put on synthroid. My dosage changed over a span of 10 years from 100mcg to 75mcg (pill cut in half) I asked my PCP to ween me off of it since it made my heart pound hard. 2018 I had half my thyroid removed after finding inconclusive cells after aspirations. They found nothing and doing Keto and following your advice I’m feeling better than ever. Side note: I had the whipple surgery in 2013 after a polyp was found on my duodenum. If it wasn’t for people like you I’d be a mess. Thank you for that.

When I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, the doctor prescribed Synthroid despite requesting NDT. It made me feel worse plus rapidly gain more weight than I’ve ever had in my entire life. I got a new doctor who was willing to prescribe NDT (Nature-throid) and it made all the difference in the world. An excellent book on this is Stop the Thyroid Madness (the book was just updated, so look for the newest version)-it has a wealth of information which aligns with Dr. Berg’s ways.

I'm learning so much, thank you Dr. Berg.

What really bothers me is how much trust we place in the hands of medical professionals & that trust is majorly abused. I'm backtracking and finding that many issues I have today are direct result of being lied to or misguided by my "medical professionals". It is much better to try and fix ourselves these days...instead of being raked over the coals in every way. Its disgusting really..."do no harm" must be a joke...

I had my thyroid removed. I’ve been on synthroid for a decade. While I feel pretty much okay, I do have some issues. Very dry skin, constipation, body temp issues
I was looking for a video like this and sure enough you had it!

I can not take armour, it upsets my stomach. Had my endo change my synthroid to 50mcg because it doesn't contain dyes and all of my hashi's symptoms disappeared. No more brain fog!!
Feeling great.

Armour isn’t the only option. I have congenital hypothyroidism and my body cannot concert T4 to T3. During one of the many Armour shortages I moved to taking Levothyroxine and Liothyronine separately. I like that we can adjust them each separately based on free T3/T4 testing.

Excess T4 which is synthroid can inhibit T3
Sometimes decreasing synthroid dose works better on symptoms control than increasing it
Selenium, zinc, iodine and other nutrients Works better on conversion issue

After my thyroid was removed my doctor put me on Levothyroxine. I made me tired all the time. I researched and asked him to put me Armour. I loved it. The doctor said it is not always mixed well so he pushed me back onto Levothyroxine and a small amount of T3 with another medicine. It's ok. I wish I never had my thyroid removed. I wish I did more research but I wasn't sleeping well and was stressing out because of it. Everyone should do a lot of research and eat real food if you're dealing with this.

I've been on Synthroid since my early 20's. Survived a horrible "thyroid storm" that put me on oxygen for 6 months and a goiter so big it was basically crushing my trachea. At that time I had severe hyperthyroidism. I literally felt like death. Synthroid gave me my life back. Now, I am hypothyroid and have Hashimoto's. Sounds like if you have Hashi's then you should stay on Synthroid because of the autoimmunity??? I'm terrified to mess with this by switching meds, spent enough of my life being sick... Thanks Doc! 💕
