For real, though, I had to change my phone language to Italian when I started driving there - Australian-English pronunciation of Italian street names was more incomprehensible than the other instructions with my limited Italian… And when I moved back to Aus, I tried keeping my phone in Italian to make me keep practicing, but the Italian pronunciation of our road names was similarly incomprehensible.

Hot tip if you drive around the Danish Swedish border region a lot, set it to Norwegian. That voice does an OK job on both sides, while DK and SV is apparently mutually unintelligible for the text to speech function

In Germany, our sat-nav instead of saying Messegelände would say Message-Land. A true American pronunciation 😂

When I visited Luxembourg a few years ago, I got a rental car with the navigation only available in English.. driving on roads which were dually labelled in French and German was quite a treat...

I forgot to switch my GPS back to English one time, so in Bexhill on Sea, the dear old thing read King Offa Way as King of Hawaii, and I think that's beautiful.
