I just replaced my 2014 mac mini with an M2 unit and have an older 27" imac at the desk also. I knew this could be done 'in the old days" but not so much anymore with the Apple Chip in the M2 and the Intel chip in the 5K imac. I got this device but haven’t really used it out of frustration thinking I could work on one screen while the other one is open. Your explanation is much clearer than most i have seen. I have all those apple devices, ipad, air, iMac and Mac Mini. It sounds like I could have both Luna Display and Secondary on all the devices and bounce between all these device combination. This works!! Superb video!! I do have to unplug my usbC cable and plug it back in for it to go to hardware usb mode, but that's small potatoes.

The use case over wifi to thunderbolt is a game changer. I have a M1 MacBook Pro and sometimes I just want to use my iMac as my main display.

you can use on-screen keyboard on the ipad, just tap on a letter "A" in the top menubar and select "show keyboard viewer"

I used Luna Display to connect my Mac Mini M2 Pro and MacBook Air M2 for 7 months, but I ended up switching to Apple Screen Mirroring in OSX 14.5. Here are the reasons why:

1. When the computer wakes up from sleep, the Luna Display app can't wake the connected display, requiring me to manually quit the apps on both computers and restart them every time.
2. When connecting to a VPN, it automatically disconnects.
3. Things got worse after 6 months; sometimes, even restarting and reinstalling the Luna Display app didn't work. Eventually, it completely stopped working. I unplugged the USB dongle and threw it away.

Ive seen someone do the same without Luna on internet somewhere maybe 2 years ago. It's possible to let macOS auto execute a script from a locked down default user account that logs in automatically that will start screen mirroring to a named device like an iPad. I never tried that myself but Im quite certain that doing this is a legit alternative to Luna that doesnt cost anything and doesnt require third party software to run or to compromise the safety of the Mac

Thanks for the tutorial. You demonstrate the headless mode with USB connection. However, can I use headless mode (iPadpro + mac mini) wirelessly with wifi? If yes, is it still work immediately when I reboot the mac mini?

Initially trial but to keep, is it still required a full year annual subscription $79 as of June 6, 2024. 2:12 this is maybe a good use for ipad pro 10.5 with mac mini m1? I need to watch again. Or use Apple Sidecar 45:46

Make sure mac and iPad are fully updated and on same network (wifi or hotspot or cellular?). Will be using Accessibility settings in which, the mac and ipad?
Can i use my mouse and keyboard?
I think the wired mac > thunderbolt > ipad 15:40?
If i use it wired, can i go without mac monitor?
19:01 makes ipad the main monitor. Headless mode. IPad is set up with ipad as primary monitor.
