Grimsly Manor Review - Classic & Retired Department 56 Halloween Haunted House

Today I have a special review- the classic Department 56 Halloween Snow Village Grimsly Manor! GIGANTIC thanks to viewer Amanda S. for sending me an extra Grimsly Manor that she had in her collection!

This long retired building features everything you'd want from a classic Haunted House- a great fit and finish on a classic design, with legit scary lights and sound. I look forward to displaying this for years to come!

My grandma used to put this out every year and it scared me to death when I was little😭 it got to a point where she had to turn the sound off and just keep on the flashing lights from then on, but I distinctly remember her laughing at how scared I was. She didn’t have to do me like that😅

Spooky Village,

This was the first Halloween Village piece I ever bought. I was on vacation in Las Vegas when I walked into a Department 56 store and was amazed by the huge Halloween and Christmas villages they created. The Grimsly Manor was the one that stood out the most. I remember thinking how expensive it was at $110, but wanting to build a village of my own and thought it would be a great centerpiece.

When I got it home however, it really didn't speak to me. I just found it so non-descript, and I didn't care for the lightning coming from the inside through the windows, and the soundtrack mechanism was too loud, even at it's low setting. I ended up putting a bunch of tape on the speaker to tone it down.

I didn't really know if creating a village would be for me, until I got my second piece as a gift, the Lemax Mortis Theater. Now this was a show piece. After that, I was hooked.

I do like Department 56's Peanuts pieces, but as for their buildings, they just haven't been my style. Still, I love the fact there are so many companies in this game that can appeal to so many types of collectors. Glad you got your hands on the Grimsly :)

My village has two Grimsly Manors. One I purchased back in the day and another I found at Goodwill last year for 6.99. It’s a great piece.

I've had this piece for over 20 years and I know this soundtrack by heart. It's the piece that my husband says added with the Haunted Barn makes our house sound like an insane asylum from Sept to Oct. lol Great piece. Recently had to replace the bulbs, but they lasted a good 20. The scream followed by the laugh is the best. So nice of Amanda S to gift that to you.

I have Grimsly Manor and also the Haunted Mansion. Grimsly Manor is always the centerpiece for my Halloween village and the Haunted Mansion goes well with it. They were both some of my first Dept 56 Halloween pieces that I bought years ago.

I started collecting Dept.56 Halloween on a bus trip to Salem! I bought so many pieces while I was there the others thought I’d lost my mind! That was at least 20 years ago, I still have them and now with 2 little Grandkids, they are a Halloween hit! This is a great piece!

Yes! The classic haunt! This piece and the Haunted Mansion got me started in villaging back in 2000. I saw them both in the store display in 1999 and got them for Christmas and so my first display wasn’t until Halloween 2000. Both are my favorites but Grimsly grabbed my attention first because of the lightning and sound effects and thus it edges out the Haunted Mansion as my favorite. Glad you are able to have and display this piece too. Thanks for the review!

I no longer own this house but definitely the best haunted house. I had an issue with keeping that blue flashing light going though. If anyone wants to see this house in a village, I have it as the main house in some of my uploads on here.
