They’re Eating WHAT? Another Debate Debacle

This week I wanted to share my thoughts on the Presidential Debate we saw last week. I wanted to really take my time until I could distill my thoughts. One of the main takeaways that I had is that without engaging in any bothsidereism I noticed this debate was a lot like the last.

People agree nearly across the board that Kamala won but not because she won hearts and minds, mainly because Trump did so poorly. Many people who were waiting for Kamala to bring them in with promises and policy felt like she didn’t deliver whatever it was they were looking for.

Kamala was in a tough position because she need to set a path that set her apart from Joe Biden without throwing him, and the nearly four years of work they have done together, under the bus.

A lot of the attacks on Kamala and questions that should have been a lay up for Trump were cast aside biting on every bait about popularity, crowd size, and general respect.

Donald Trump also engaged in some of his most extreme and dangerous rhetoric in awhile spreading lies about Haitian migrants in Springfield. These lies have resulted in very real harassment and threats to the Haitian community. This is a fallout that Trump is undoubtedly and unequivocally responsible for. It is steeped in racism and the doubling down by his supporters shows a particularly disturbing need to make whatever the former president says true resulting in more misinformation and twisting of the narrative around pictures and arrests that have all been debunked.

Some say the debates don’t move the needle at all but it my opinion this one really should. Trump took no responsibility for January 6th as I’m sure he won’t take responsibility for the treatment of Haitian migrants that has now morphed into harassment of African migrants.

There are people that see a scene reminiscent of 2016 when Trump was up against Hillary on the debate stage. The hope this time is that Kamala presents a very different hope and message for the country. Being endorsed by the DNC, Obama, Taylor Swift, and a host of others could be the support that sways an overwhelming amount of votes her way. One thing is sure no amount of internet content or conversation can win an election. It’s imperative you register to vote and get out to vote. The election has already begun with mail in ballots in some states having already started.

Im 32 and probably going to die soon (cancer). As a Black and Native woman it's so amazing to see Black comedians being successful. Your videos bring me so much joy. I often watch while in the hospital or while I'm very sick as a bright spot in my day. You make me laugh when all i want to do is cry.

I have tickets to see your show in Portland this Dec and I just hope I'm still alive and mobile enough to attend. Didn't see an option to buy a meet and greet ticket in my city but just seeing the show is good enough for me! Gonna try to hang on long enough to see the show because it would be a fantastic ending to this rough journey.

As a Springfield citizen, I can't tell you how much I appreciate finally seeing someone use their platform to address the absolute insanity and disillusion of what's going on. My daughter isn't going to school tomorrow because her school was locked down for a third time in a row. 5 minutes ago I argued on the internet with a past teacher of mine who claims she loves her Haitian students but is voting Trump because "he's going to do something about the immigration problem". People in my community who have actually earned my respect for their minds and hearts are looking past their own common sense to help an Entertainer win HIS game of OUR lives. I just want the truth to be heard from the heart of this mess Trump has created in my city.

As a Haitian American I am very tired of social media rumors that are constantly circulating about my people. The amount of times I had to tell people no we don’t eat dirt cookies, no we don’t eat cats and dogs… I AM EXHAUSTED BY THE NONSENSICAL RUMORS.
