Geranium plants (pelargoniums) are an annual in my growing zone. I have been overwintering my geraniums bare root in my basement (where it's cool and dark but does not freeze) during the winter months. I like to check on my dormant geraniums once a month to see if they are rotting, need a little water, etc.

Please let me know how you're overwintering your geraniums and how are they looking so far!

Good morning Vita. Nice video. Thank you. I currently do not have geraniums but after seeing your video, I may add them to my garden. I remember when I was just a little girl, my mom had geraniums in a pot as we lived in the city with no yard to speak of. My mom use to bring her geraniums into the basement to overwinter them and place it near a window where her washing machine was. There were ten children in my family and my mom washed clothes every morning. I use to see her hydrate the plant every so often, telling me not to give it extra water. In other words please leave it alone. I remember being so amazed when she brought it out in the springtime and watching it bloom so beautifully. I thought, wow, my mom is so amazing.
Yes, I think I’ll add geraniums to my garden this year to honor my amazing mother. ❤️😊

Very informative video. You are so smart to label the bags! We don't have to over winter geraniums in California. In fact mine are still blooming right now. I didn't even know people did this. I am learning so much by venturing out of my zone (no pun intended) haha 😄 Liz

Good morning, don’t have any overwintering. Slept in a little this morning, I got back late from picking my niece up at the vet clinic last night thirty cars crashed in about ten miles of highway driving every exit four or five cars piled up. The first would slow down and get hit and it just started the chain reaction. I was a plow driver for the town then the state and ended up dispatcher for the state and I forgot how many people can’t drive in the snow. One inch and bumper cars.. What was normally an half hour drive turned into three hours. Then when I got there they had an emergency come in. They tried but couldn’t help the dogs, so long ride home where she was feeling bad for the elderly owner. Sorry to be saying so much nongarden related but I’m a proud uncle, she was the vet tech asked to stay for the emergency (she only works temporary at this clinic) .

Thanks Vita. I just went and checked on mine. Plus, noticed my first planting of onions are just beginning to sprout. 😊
I have one geranium that I overwintered in a paper bag last year. It was so fun bringing it out of dormancy and watching it grow on through the summer. It’s a smallis one and I didn’t but any more like it last year…but, I did pick up 3 seed geraniums that are a favorite since they were on a late summer sale. I trimmed the roots on one of them and potted it up. The others are in a box with the one from last year. They needed a lot of trimming. It will be interesting to see if they work.
Have you grown geraniums from seed? I’ve got some and will be giving it a go.
Thanks again!

Thanks so much for posting this video. Can you tell me if I would over winter sun patients the same way?

Hi Vita! How long do you soak the roots for? I’ve been spritzing once a month with water but think the soaking method would be better.
