Oh my gosh!! I’ve been losing handful of hair throughout the day, in the shower and after combing with large tooth comb for over a month. My scalp was feeling sore but since I have fibromyalgia n have had scalp symptoms for yrs. Figured it was more of that. I finally got desperate yesterday and bought vitamins, nails n hair vitamins, went to urgent care got a RX of minoxidil but didn’t take it because of the side effects. So last night after watching tons of vids on YT decided I’d buy rosemary oil the following morning. last night i used the only healthy oil I have in the house, which is ( Organic olive oil) I let it soak in my scalp for a couple of hrs and washed it out. I used to have a subscription to function of beauty shampoo/ conditioner and oil. So after washing i skipped conditioner n used the function of beauty oil, lightly on scalp too. I skipped combing and went to bed. Today my scalp feels 90% better. There is minimal scalp soreness 👍🏼 and my hair shedding is Gone!! I can’t believe it!! It can’t be this easy! I was losing tons of hair from an extremely dry scalp?!?!? I even had previously messaged my doctor for a dermatologist referral ( which I’m still keeping). Today I literally lost 11 strands of hair!! I ‘ve ordered Organic coconut oil snd will use it with my olive oil. Just the slightest amount prior to washing hair. I may use a Very slight amount on my scalp after shower before bed.
I wanted to share this because I realized that having dry scalp WILL make your hair fall out and I wouldn’t have guessed in a million yrs that this was the source of my hair loss. I will update tomorrow n HOPE/ PRAY my hair has stopped falling out. I still don’t believe it!!! Also, its true go see a dermatologist and get tested. The Urgent care Dr. looked at my scalp, ordered labs work ( all normal) n Rx minoxidil. A dermatologist I hope, 10:50 would have done a more in-depth evaluation n not quick to give me minoxidil( which would have caused more shedding). Glad a I went with my gut on Minoxidil!! Try moisturizing your scalp ppl, you never know, it may help u as it’s helping me?!?!!

For me, it was low ferritin level. Iron was at lowest normal. Since I was craving ice like mad, I knew my hair loss was due to iron somehow. The pa at the dermatologist did blood test, looked at the iron, and said it wasn’t iron. She put me on spironlacton and topical. Didn’t work. 2 years later, after losing half my hair, my primary care looked at my blood work and said, duh, it’s the ferritin. Once I had iron infusions, my hair grew back. I was so angry.

You’re so encouraging, always tempering that with facts.
I thought I was going bald, seriously, bald! I even bought minoxidil and started it, but couldn’t stand the way it made my hair look. At my last haircut my stylist pointed out all my little sprout hairs, coming up in places where I thought I would never see her again. As you said, it seems to have resolved itself. As background, I had two foot surgeries less than a year apart, and then Covid following those. Anecdotally, I suspect there is a connection.
Hope you’re doing well and enjoying the season as much as you seem to 💕

You are precious! Thank you for the no B.S. and straightforwardness. I have researched so many reasons why I have hairloss and made so many of the mistakes you mention. I wish you were my mother!😭💜

Thank you for discussing this subject. In childhood, my daughter had alopecia Arcata. Thankfully she was treated and her hair grew back. In puberty, she was diagnosed with PCOS after we noticed a widening of the part in her hair. Fortunately, we lived in the same city as the foremost dermatologist in hair loss and my daughter received treatment from him.

Thank you for pointing this all out, lately there seems to be an explosion of products meant to generally address "hair loss, " with little to no evidence...and definitely no regard for the cause or nature of the hair loss. I definitely have noticed that most of these dramatic "before and after" photos of women involve thinning in the corners of the hairline that is likely the result of traction alopecia or telogen effluvium. These conditions are likely to recover on their own if the cause is addressed.

😮 Thank you for the info! I am 79 years old and had gastric bypass surgery 15 years ago and over the years I have had more and more bouts with anemia. Last May it was so bad I had to have 8 iron infusions...2 a week for the wholeonth of May. Helped tremendously. I also had hair almost to my waist for the 3 almost 4 years of Covid and wore my hair in a ponytail. That's when I noticed gobs of hair shedding. Got my hair cut 3 weeks ago...short...and the shedding has almost stopped. I have other health issues and take meds for them that are likely contributing to hair loss but most of my loss is around my face and my crown.😢

I’m finding that perfume/fragrances in shampoo and perfumy heavy creamy treatments cause me to have allergy and scaly scalp or dandruff. I think fragrances in personal care products that are overpowering don’t belong there. I have also had allergic reactions to drug store imported facial cream that has fragrance (it was Avene a French brand). I’ve used another French brand of cream a year ago and again so much perfume in there it’s off-putting how much most French brands put so much fragrances and label them “hypoallergenic”…fragrances alone are the allergens.

Such great points here! Having a derm evaluate your scalp and hair can save you a lot of time, $$, and frustration when it comes to choosing the correct hair loss intervention(s).

I had traction alopecia and it was really something and that was due to immense stress i was picking at my hair like swirling them into little braids and that caused hair loss so my dermatologist said to cut my hair short and have a stress ball to alleviate my tendency to start my habit again. Also because of that hair loss i was put into minoxidil 5% combined with a tonic hair stimulating spray lotion for 6 months and that was all 😊❤. I wasn't influenced by anyone yes i listen to what others say but my board certified dermatologist is the boss of that games and it is not his first time at the Rodeo aka it is the Doctor's field of expertise so move out hair influencers 😅😂. Doctor you do not waste anyones time on the contrary you ring the bell and ask for a bit of our time to gain beneficial information that can be a game changer for us so kudos to you 😊❤.

I've been losing hair consistently since I was 20 (13 years), but it got to about 80% of my original hair gone after bariatric surgery 😱 But to be fair, I was 100% aware of this. Now I'm starting at a zero baseline - shaved my hair down to a buzz cut 💇🏻All the bloods are being redrawn and drugs/topicals are being recalibrated (obviously all my doctors know). If it grows back it'll all grow at the same time, and if it doesn't, I'll rock a Sinead O'Connor for life. Now I'm going to binge all of your hair content, Dr Dray, and be my own guinea pig 😂😂 And maybe leave out alleged miracle cures this time (desperate times)!

And of course.... what is the ad that is at the top of the video list on my screen?? Oh yes, a sponsored video for the super expensive Vegamore Hair Serum.
I do have to say that I once used the Ordinary's hair serum, and did see results. I read that their formula will keep your hair in the 'growing phase' longer. My hairstylist said she noticed it too. Compared to Vegamore, The Ordinary is VERY affordable.

The temple hair loss I'm not sure is traction alopecia. I see it a lot in New mothers/people who have undergone stress, so 8 think it's more than just traction alopecia. I also feel it might have to do with iron def

Happy Tuesday. Finally made it on time. I put you in my work calendar as “ in a meeting unavailable” 🤣. I bought the irestore for Black Friday sale. I wore it for first time and thought I clicked the button but didn’t. Was sitting for 25 minutes lol for nothing. The lights are bright for me so put a sleep mask on now.

I would love to see a video regarding trichotillomania! I deal with it, and my eyebrows stopped growing in some spots where I pulled too often I guess.
