Eisenhower was probably the last of the real non warmonger republicans that existed except Ron Paul and a few more maybe.

We have the most expensive Navy in the world, yet we haven't had a sea battle since 1945. Therefore, we are wasting our money, and Ike was right.

It can also be said, We haven't had a sea battle since 1945 BECAUSE we have the most expensive Navy in the world. Japan didn't attack us because we were strong. They attacked us because we were weak. In 1941 we had no MID. We had to quickly convert our civilian factories to military ones, and it took 18 months. And it took another 2 years to defeat our enemies.

The MID keeps us safe and free.

That's...um...NOT what he said. He never said, or even implied that "the enemy is us". He did say to beware of the M.I.D.
Sadly the warning wasn't heeded.
But don't twist his actual words. "Journalists" reporting non-facts is probably the bigger threat.
