As a retired and very successful General, President Eisenhower had a unique understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the military industrial complex which had developed during World War II.
Unfortunately his keywords for avoiding problems were “an alert and informed citizenry“! Ours is not, putting it mildly, and I don’t see any signs of that turning around.

To the people who are calling Eisenhower a hypocrite. Eisenhower saw defense spending as necessary to deter the Soviets. He was warning us against letting the military industrial complex INFLUENCE congress.

LBJ was the first president in the back pocket of the military industrial complex. A tradition that would continue going forward.

This wasn't a warning, but a plea. After WW2, Roosevelt had set the foundations for what would become the complex, and Eisenhower would then be forced to expand it. This is a heartfelt plea from a man willing to admit mistakes

As a Gen Zer, it’s sad to say that the MIC is still very prominent right now. The only people to take this speech seriously was JFK, RFK, and MLK. Since 1963, it was been very prominent. The Vietnam War!!
