I learned starting with tab and honestly, for guitar it's pretty useful-- you get fingering and string information that you don't get with standard notation in a fairly compact not-to-busy form.

However, I'm learning standard notation too because musically I don't want to be stuck with "3rd fret second string" instead of "low C"-- I want to think in chords and notes as well as shapes and fingerings.

Hannah, you learn how I do!  I listen to about 8% of the directions, dive in head first, mess up, go back, listen to another 15%, and then only kinda get it wrong.  This gives me hope for the rest of my future endeavors.

I love the fact that you picked Halestorm. I've been playing guitar since I was thirteen and honestly, I've never learned how to read music. I learned by ear and then used tabs if I was really stuck when learning a song. I don't think reading music is really a necessity anymore.

Neat! I took a guitar class in high school, but stopped shortly after. I've picked it back up again, though as a mommeh and student, i don't have lots of time for practice and such. You've helped inspire me, Hannah! <3<3
