Mogwai even at its alleged "most commercial" are mountains ahead of 99% of others creating new music.

God's holy trousers..!
Yet another slab of absolute fried feckin gold. How do they keep doing THIS?
Devastatingly simple and heartbreakingly beautiful in just over 4 minutes...

Such a yearning for transcendence in this music

As someone who has lost 3 friends in the past year and almost died herself, this song hits me. Thank you, Mogwai.

I'm 50, I have seen mogwai LIVE several times, and if I'm being honest... there's not much better at delivering a live performance! Every fuckin time they out perform themselves from the last time.❤

Going back, you can see why this was the number 1 album. Unreal!

dedicated to my best friend who got sick from a rare disease that made him forget me but I will never forget. we used to listen fine music and songs like this song says what we used to do
: So much fun hanging around in the dark.
Disappear in the sun
All gone
It took a while just to think
Of home

“‘Ritchie Sacramento’’s title came from a misunderstanding a friend of ours had about how to say Ryuichi Sakamoto. The lyrics were inspired by a story Bob Nastanovich shared about his friend and bandmate David Berman who proclaimed ‘Rise Crystal Spear’ as he threw a shovel at a sports car. The song is dedicated to all the musician friends we’ve lost over the years.” - Stuart Braithwaite

Quote from Pitchforks article "Mogwai Share Video for New Song “Ritchie Sacramento”: Watch", 21 January 2021

In memory of Ryuichi Sakamoto and all musicians we have lost.

This makes me feel like its the 90s, I'm depressed af and loving all the sad songs. 2021 I'm about to turn 46 and I'm ok with this.

A hymn of my 2021. The year I experienced a tremendous loss which changed my life forever for the worse, but it is precisely in this period when Mogwai showed me how it's important to have songs like this. After all these losses the memory is all you have left, and songs like this precisely guide us to our memory. I think "Cody" is about that. They stayed with me through all of these tough times.
I like how predominantly optimistic chords go on par with sad lyrics, and I think this contrast shows exactly what real optimism is. It is possible to cry, to dream and to laugh to this song equally.
The sense of despair in this song is uniquely comforting, partially maybe because it goes on par with acceptance

This song is going to remembered as a classic. Hype is real for this album.

They're like an aural comfort blanket. They can always be relied on to deliver some top notch tunes. Definitely their most commercial since Rock Action yet beautifully fresh & yeah no one will ever read this however it's a fucking beautiful lp.
