United Nations Will Become “Irrelevant” Without Reforms: EAM S Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar talked about the United Nations and also about the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war during an address at the Lowy Institute in Sydney on October 12. Jaishankar also talked about India’s evolving relationship with Australia and the mutual interest of the two countries in Quad.

It has become irrelevant during pandemic. They failed to properly work due to vested interests native to certain nations in the permanent council itself. It should be either dismissed or re arranged.

"The post '45 world is more of treaties and agreements etc" as remarked by the Foreign Minister. The problem is these "treaties and agreements" mean very little if anything at all, when the biggest player and party to them have proven themselves to be totally untrustworthy and have absolutely NO genuine nor honourable intentions of complying with any of them at their own whims and fancies! Especially when it is a stated policy to be "strategically ambiguous " which says it all.

Jaishankarji is a visionary and experienced diplomat who has seen the world politics changing by the day . He has worked under a fierce and empathetic EAM Mrs Sushma Swaraj who was a perfectionist and never had to recorrect her work as a leader and also as a Advocate of Supreme Court too .. He has evolved more and added wit and humour with insightfulness . Today he is the most negotiable EAM in the world 🌎 and is very successful in his tenure and responsibilities levied on him . He has never failed India and also hope of Modiji’s Self Reliant India as Foriegn Policy too ..

He is absolutely right War between Russia and Ukraine has created irrevocable damage to humanity, economy and also is endangering biodiversity and human evolution too …

War must end with dialogue and diplomacy with a note of benefit to both nations collectively ..

The world has become the victim of superpower rivalry that has crippled world economy. The most glaring example is the US sanctions on major oil producing countries like Venezuela, Iran and Russia while OPEC cuts oil production and raises price of oil. The whole world is reeling under economic hardship and the US is busy trying to teach Russia a lesson on its war with Ukraine. The US is not dependant on import of fuel like the rest of the world and therefore cannot hold the world at ransom just to prove a point. Every nation needs to safeguard its interests rather than pick sides on an unnecessary war which is of no consequence to them.

Everything changes in this world as there is nothing constant in this world. It's beyond comprehension how UNSC has 3 countries from Europe one from Asia and one from North America. This has remained so for more than 80 years too long a time. Europe has lost its superiority in economy, military power which was not the case before. Even based on population representation India needs to be in it. Ideally all members should give up their positions and reelect 10 new members like any democracy in the world.
