.) First, ensure that you have selected the correct collet, one that has a serial number matching your lathe. Then, align the keyway of the collet with the keyway of the closure, and align that with the set screw. Turning the collet closure chuck should draw the collet into closure.
.) The keyway of the collet and the keyway of the set screw must be aligned. If done properly, the collet should be drawn fully into the closure.
.) Only house parts that are within 0.005" of the diameter of the collet. For a 1.125" collet, this means a maximum diameter of 1.130" and a minimum diameter of 1.120". If a part does not fit within these guidelines, select a different collet.
.) The greater the length of the part that is housed within the collet, the greater the stability of the part. When the length of the part outside of the collet increases, the part becomes less stable.
.) Before removing the part from the collet, you must remove the cutting tool, as it will prevent accidental cuts and scrapes.
