Birth Justice IS Social Justice: Exploring and Expanding the Role of Social Workers in Addressing Racism in Maternal Health Care with Dr. Charity Watkins

Informed by existing literature and the interplay of personal and professional roles as a social worker, maternal health researcher, birth justice advocate, and survivor of severe maternal morbidity, this interactive presentation describes the historical and contemporary roles of social work in maternal health and proposes innovative strategies for social workers to reduce racial maternal health disparities at the patient, interpersonal, and institutional levels of healthcare.

This is part of the NC MHI 4th Trimester Project Community of Practice series.
