Capacitors (3 of 9) What is a Farad? An Explanation

preview_player
Показать описание
Gives a brief over view of what a farad is and how it relates to capacitance.
The SI unit of capacitance is the farad (F), which is defined as one coulomb per volt (1 C/V). A capacitor is a passive electronic device that stores electric charge on its plates and electrical energy in its electric field. A capacitor contains at least two electrical conductors such as metal plates that are separated by a dielectric. The insulating dielectric acts to keep the metal plates isolated from each other and to increase the capacitor's ability to store charge. Materials commonly used as dielectrics include glass, ceramic, plastic film, paper, mica and air. Unlike a resistor, an ideal capacitor does not dissipate energy. The SI unit of capacitance is the farad (F), which is defined as one coulomb per volt (1 C/V).

thank you. its very informative video, for people who said they didn't understand, please know that no one will be able to explain these subjects thoroughly by a short video, as its enormous subject. We need to watch and get information on what we didnt understand from internet, for Egg: i didnt understand coulomb so i google search and learn what is coulomb.

Wonderful!!! For Science like Physics and Electricric, the most importance things for me is to fully understand the actual physical meaning by the Dimension. Now i understand how 1[F] is big....

I use a 1 farad for my car stereo. Works great when the subs are working as he head lights will not dim at night time.

Was the reason for the right side of the equations changing notation after microfarads? I.e. You used 'C' instead of 'F' at the end.

Shouldn't 1C/V one coulomb per volt be 1Q/V when = to 1 Farad?
