Honestly, I looked this up as a joke because I saw post telling me that my ultimate goal in life is to be Raphael, the turtle not the painter. But now I'm super interested in this, I've just gotten a pair of sais and I can't wait to start practicing! Thank you Mr. Enkamp

Learning weapons has many benefits, including strengthening of the hands and arms. A beginner uses a sai as a held, foreign object. At an advanced level, it is about using an object as an extension of your own body - as part of your body. When you understand this, any object can become a weapon, and everything you touch becomes a different experience - even a fork. The elementary understanding of karate is to learn to defend, the advanced understanding is how to live.

I cry a little joy every time I see someone else promoting kobudo. 🤘🏻

I competed with sai for 3 years straight in 2 tournament circuits. I love the sai.

I have 2 Hammers inside my house, if someone were to ever invade my place. One for Blocking, and one for Striking :)

I would really love to see a lesson on Tonfa, it is one of my favorite Kobudo weapons but I can't seem to find any lessons on it!

Thank you for such a detailed video. I really appreciate the Japanese terminology as well. I purchased a pair of sai at the Asato dojo while I was in Okinawa and James was kind enough to show me some basics. This video is just what I needed 🥋🙏

I was training with my Sai's today. You have excellent form, and honestly, I have some work to do. Great video, Jesse!

This is an excellent demonstration of the basics - I will work through this many times to further improve my abilities with the sai - thank you

Hello Jesse-san! I have been studying Kobudo for some time under Shihan Roger Wehrhahn of Mountain Teachings. Thank you for providing such amazing and free content to the world. It is a truly selfless act and I have learned a lot from you. I noticed something that you are doing that I have been told should not be done, The thumb placement on the Sai when in the natural grip should not be above the Moto - the location where the Yoko or prongs extend out from the weapon, and instead should be placed below the Moto which still provides support but protects the thumb from getting struck when using the Sai in bunkai against another Sai or other weapon. It took me some time to get to the point where it is now very natural. Thank you again for all that you and your family do. The content you provide is exceptional. Arigato gozaimasu

This is so cool! I wish I had this when I was in my back yard as a kid, when TMNT was still on the top of the hill! I would have been the cock of the walk, using actual techniques, not just for the Sai but also the bo staff!

Now I have to look and see if I can find ones for the nunchaku and the Kitana, just to complete the journey of my 9 year old self.

Thanks Jesse!

This is awesome. My kids have done a little work with the bo and just got sai. Should be very helpful. Thank you for sharing.
